Hello lovelies,
I’m thinking about getting some diamond studs. I’ve done a bit of researching on here and it looks like maybe Brian Gavin may be a good place to start. I have a few questions before I go in blind. I would like to get upgradeable studs so I can build on them in the future. My budget now is around $1,500-$2k for thE final product. Where should I start? I’m not educated on rounds (I own a G cushion), do I need to be as concerned with colour when it’s set for the ear? I love my G ring so I don’t think I’m that colour sensitive. I also don’t think I’m bothered with SI1/2’s for earrings (good luck to you if you’re getting that close to my face )..

So with this in mind – what would the experts recommend for me to start with? I want as big and sparkly as I can get (from research that looks like I need to start at around .75ctw? for my budget). Do hearts and arrows make a different for studs? Should i be making sure I have these types of stones? (I must admit I’m clueless about h&a and why it’s something to look for – can you see that pattern with the naked eye and/or does that enhance the overall brilliance? – I guess that’s a separate topic altogether!)

Any help would be terrific.
I would like to put them in 14k wg setting, I do like 6 prongs and martini 3 prong styles .

Thanks in advance for any help x

If you want certed, upgradeable diamonds, BGD matched pairs are awesome little H&A dynamos!

For uncerted, I would ask IDJ for excellent cut diamond studs and see what they come up with within your budget. They are also upgradeable at IDJ. Tell them you are a Pricescoper, and they will understand that you are more discriminating and knowledgeable than the average person looking to purchase some earrings.

You can't go wrong with either vendor - top notch customer service all around!

oh thank you Pinto! In terms of uncert vs certified - um don't laugh but is that important? I just want them to look sparkly and amazing - do I need to make them certified to get that? Sorry yes I know I'm clueless :-(

I really prefer mine to be ideal cut stones, and I would go with BG or WhiteFlash because they have stones that are easy to match up because their cut quality is consistent.

For studs I would opt for GIA Ex cuts in J color and Si1 or Si2 clarity as big as humanly possible, and I would likely work with ID Jewelery because they have the lowest prices I have seen on PS and have access to so many stones being located in the diamond district. From a distance of two feet or more you *cannot* see clarity or color at all in my opinion. And you cannot see "super ideal" either. I am a cut nut and wear J color OEC studs that are DA BOMB when viewed from normal earring distance.

If you want more "mind clean" then BGD is a great choice.

Thanks Dreamer - really good advice. (PS My mind isn't clean on anything, so I can let it slide for my studs too)... Ok the search will begin!
