So stick to my stomach!!!! I still have small hopes it will turn up but my husband filed a claim a week ago. He just got a call from the insurance company saying that Neil Diamonds?? will replace with "comparable" rings. The horrible part is I just had my engagement ring re-set by Victor Canera (Emilya) last year. Luckily we did have the ring re-appraised and added to our policy. But I'm going to guess there is no way this jeweler is going to provide a comparable VC hand forged setting. I'm waiting to hear back from the adjuster but does anyone have experience with this and know if I have options to force them to use the original vendors to relpace? Any info is greatly appreciated. SO VERY SAD

Did the appraisal state that it was a hand-forged ring by Victor Canera? Or did you insure with the receipt/statement of services or something? If they are replacing with like kind, it should also need to be a hand-forged ring.

Who is your insurer?

I don't have the appraisal in front of me (at work) but David Atlas did it (my husband took him the actual ring) and I'm almost positive it said something to the effects of laser by Victor Canera. There was a picture. I think my husband said United Fire Group is our homeowners. Thanks!

Then I think you can make the argument that the only acceptable replacement is by Victor Canera.

I'm sure as heck going to try my hardest! I'm just so upset. Thanks for listening.

I can see how it would be an incredibly stressful situation. From everything I've read on here though, most insurers get straightened out after a kick in the behind. Best of luck. Keep us updated. Maybe someone with more experience with the insurance side of things will chime in.

I think the point is that it has to be a "comparable" ring. So you should be able to demand that the person who makes the replacement can do comparable work to VC. The insurance company should have to provide that evidence to you or you should be able to pick a comparable replacement, which might only be VC. They can't just send you to any vendor to make a ring for the same price if it isn't hand forged of equal quality. But of course you are still capped by the policy limits on your ring. Either the amount of insurance, or the amount to provide a comparable ring, whichever is less, is what would be customary.

So I finally connected with the insurance today and after discussion she informed me there IS another option!! I can bring my appraisal to any jeweler of my choice and they need to write of a quote and details of replacement and then it has to be submitted to this Neil Diamonds for approval. Once approved I can than proceed with the jeweler! THANK GOD!!

My husband purchased the diamond (solitaire setting) and eternity band from Philadelphia 10 yrs ago and then we reset ER with VC last November. So I guess I need to figure out next steps.
