My mother called me yesterday and told me that after 33 years of marriage her diamond had fallen out and was gone forever.

She is very sentimental and understandably upset. She would prefer to keep her set and just get a new head and diamond. The wedding set is structurally sound, but the prongs were worn away to nothing.

And so I turn to you all.... Lets find her a new one!

Her original stone was about 0.20 ct, so this will be an upgrade
31.gif
. We went to Jared today to look at different size stones on her hand. She prefered round stones between 0.50 and 0.75. She is not particularly color sensitive and only cares that it is eye clean. She also understands that cut is king and loved being able to see the arrows.

Help me find a .5 to .75, H-J, VS2-SI1, round, ideal cut diamond

Thanks in advance!

What is your budget? The price difference between a .5ct and 0.75ct is quite big.

I knew there was something I was forgetting to add.....

She only wants to spend $1000 or less on the stone, although she could afford a 2 ct. She is just not a jewelry person and her wedding set is the only piece that she regularly wears. My dad stopped buying her jewelry many years ago b/c she simply does not wear it.

Sometimes I wonder how she ever gave birth to a jewelry obsessed person like myself.

Here are a couple I saw, I purchased from James Allen and i''m very happy, i''m at work so I just browed really quickly...if you are looking at really specific measurements you want I would browse there for a bit! Putting in a search of and ideal ciut : .50 to .75ct round, H thru J, VS2 to SI2 )I know you said SI1 but I own a SI2 and it''s GORGEOUS, excellent deal...you can''t see anything and even with a loupe it''s a clear crystal) I did the price between $100 to $1500.00

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1086765.asp $1310.00 (just a TEENY over) GIA .57ct

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1101363.asp $1390.00 AGS .51ct

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1086968.asp $1460.00 GIA .62 ct Largest one in search

I am fully open to going as low as a K SI2. All my mom cares about is that it sparkles like mad. She is also leaning more toward .5 over .75. She feels that the .75 is just HUGE and overpowering
20.gif
.

I will keep my eyes open in the next few weeks for more to come available in the .5 range. I also plan to drop a line to a local place here in Houston.

Thanks again!

You''re in Houston, make an appointment at WF for sure. I''m sorry your Mom lost her stone, but am sure you''ll find her a gorgeous replacement!! My Mom isn''t into jewelry either, soooo weird, hehe.

That is an incredible deal. As she has said she doesn't care about color that is an excellent choice. To give reference, I purchased a .61 ideal cut E VS2 (also hearts and arrows with the AGS 0 cut grade, but i doubt you would notice any performance difference between it and this one, and it will certainly sparkle like mad) for 2000. So here you are getting, visually, nearly the same stone for half the price! of course the J will have a bit of a presence, but nothing to major, and as she doesn't care about it you need to reserve this one and drive over to WF, or just buy it
25.gif
it looks pretty delicious to me!

I would probably pick the other one but this is also an excellent option, especially if she enjoys the romanticism of hearts and arrows:

ACA for 1295 I think, with PS discount

You guys are awesome! Its even better than I hoped for.

I will talk with my mom this afternoon and see if we can get an appointment to see it next week.

Let me know if you see any other contenders.

You better call or email them to put it on hold. That one will be gone really, really quick. Email [email protected]. Putting on hold will let you go see it next week and purchase it!

i am not an expert and have not studied the tutorials like some here have, so the numbers don''t mean much to me..... however that does appear to be one heck of a diamond looking at the pic, the idealscope and the aset. i have seen folks here say they were about to pull the trigger on a diamond only to have had someone beat them to it, and that often occurs because attention has been brought to a specific diamond by these threads and someone else scoops it up. my point is this: i wouldn''t wait a week to go see it without reserving it if you are at all interested. now that this thread exists and that diamond has had attention called to it, someone else lurking might likely decide it IS a pretty sweet deal and you''ll be a day late and a penny short by the time YOU decide ''yeah that is the one for us!''

no harm in reserving, and no harm in calling WF monday to ask about the diamond, and learn why it made expert selection vs. ACA.

It was even better than I imagined! Excellent stone with an excellent price. It was an ES instead of an ACA because the pavillion angle fell just outside of ACA specs. The ring should be ready next friday and I will try and post some pics.

YIPPEE!!!! I''m so glad this stone works for your mom! I can''t wait to see the photos of this J. What did you think of it compared to the G stones you looked at? Of course, the size difference was probably noticeable, but what about the color and any other differences? I bet this J is really pretty with a lot of warmth. Is you Mom excited? It''s a lot larger than the one she was wearing!

Is WF going to repair her setting and put the diamond in it?

What a great stone your Mom just got!!!!! Can''t wait to see pics!!!!

It was a wonderful experience and we had a really good time. My appointment at WF was originally with Lesley, but for unforseen circumstances she was tied up. One of their bench jewelers (Leon) helped us and he was absolutley wonderful.

We firsted viewed the .56 J ES, and it was breath taking. Leon immediately complemented me on choosing this diamond to view and asked if I had any help picking it out. I told him that I had a little help from my PS friends. I fell in love immediately, but mom thought it still might be too big. So Leon pulled out a .4 G ACA so that we could compare size and color. When mom looked at them side by side she went "Oh.........". She did not realize how big the visual difference would be. She definately wanted the bigger one. I am slowly turning her to the dark side
31.gif
.

The color difference was also very noticeable, the much smaller G looking very white and the larger J definately warmer. I think I like warmer diamonds, and mom could care less.

Leon is replacing the head of the old ring with a 4 prong plat head, polishing the 18kt yellow gold, and rhodium plating the engraved flower pattern on the band. He said that since it is already in such good condition, when he finishes with it will look like new.

The ring should be ready to pick up by friday and I will try and posts some pics.

Thanks again to cinnamon and the rest of yall for helping me find this diamond and making this an easy experience for my parents. My mom is extremely grateful to you all and is very humbled that you guys would take the time and effort to do this for her.

Thanks so much,

Amy

I''m so glad your mom found a new pretty! I can''t wait to see the ring.

I recieved my official WF photoshoot of my mom''s ring today. She is just learning how to use email and I had to call her to walk her through opening the attachment. When she saw the pics she started screaming like Ed McMahon was on her door step with a million dollars
9.gif
.The hard part will be waiting until friday to pic it up! I will post hand pics on Friday in SMTR.

Thanks a million everyone!

Ah man, that picture is too small to see the detail! I bet she is so excited...funny to hear you post about her seeing it in email. Post a larger version for us!

lol Somebody better be with her when she opens it, she might faint.

Yeah, kinda hard to tell from the pics, but I''m sure the set is gorgeous. Please let us know what she thinks.

So where''s the ring? Where you and your mom disappointed or thrilled? We want pictures!

Sorry for the delay....

Picked up the ring on Friday and the stone and workmanship is awesome. Have not had a chance to get any hand pics, both my mom and I have been very busy with some OOT guests here for the holiday weekend. I will try to get some this afternoon at our family get together.

I will resize and repost the WF pics with my hand pics, but dont expect too much detail. The wg engraving on the shank is smooth (after 33 years of wear) and the floral design is barely discernable. Mom did not want them to change anything (she loves her ring just the way it is) on the shank so they just polished and plated.

While I am not a rb kinda girl for a ering, I have totally fallen in love with H&A rb''s for anything else. You cant imagine how alive they are and the amount of fire they throw until you see it in person. I cant wait to do my reset project with some ACA melee.

Fantastic news!

I took some pics for yall yesterday. There were about three OK ones out of the 10 shots I took. I started a new thread in SMTR.

i''m so excited for your mom...... that stone really did seem like quite a winner and cinnamon013 did an awesome job finding it! how nice of you to help your mom with this, i''m sure this made it all the more special for her!
