How do I purchase loose diamonds for shipping into Australia. What should I expect, including additional costs, if I ship into Australia both from your and and mine?
Or perhaps someone could recommend a reputable Brisbane diamond wholesaler that I could deal with.
This has been asked before, but I can't remember what the answer was; you might run a search. Failing that, Garry (Cut Nut) can answer it the next time he comes by.
Hi
Shipping into Australia is relatively simple as there is no import duty applicable. Sales tax is payable on entry however before Customs will release the parcel. This effectively means you would have to contract a clearing agent if you require a door to door service. Alternatively you can do the clearing at the Airport and Tax Dept yourself. You do need to be aware that the international couriers like FedEx do not insure diamonds in transit. The trade use International Security companies.
While there are diamond wholesalers in Brisbane you would need to be a member of the jewellery trade to buy from them.
"When a diamond wholesaler sells to a consumer then they are retailers
Why would you imagine a wholesaler would sell one stone to you for the same price he would sell hundreds for?
And would you expect to be sold the pick of the parcel? Or the dog that the true wholesale clients reject?
The HCA and Ideal-Scope Cut Quality Crusader!"
Are you saying that this is a course you would not recommend for an individual? And that I should expect a seller to be unscrupulous? Surely I could be sold a dog equally from a retailer at retail price on the internet or in person as much as from a wholesaler at a wholesale price? Should money back guarantees be treated with scepticism?
In the diamond/jewellery industry, like most industries wholesalers sell to retailers who on sell to consumers.
If a wholesaler was to sell to consumers’ word soon gets around and the retailers would stop supporting the wholesalers as he is competing with them.
Like all distribution chains it’s volume driven.
A wholesaler would not risk large yearly sales to his clients, often running in millions of dollars by supplying a single consumer.
If approached he would usually direct you to one of his clients.
What you may sometimes find is retailers’ disguising as wholesalers with claims of “we can sell it to you wholesale” This is just trick marketing.
A genuine bargain price will usually be a retailer sacrificing his profit margin to attract volume business. Retail volume not wholesale volume
