loose diamond questions

Just checking out some options. The following quotes are from a jeweler that I felt very comfortable with.
Any insight is welcome. I compared some with whiteflash.com for reference.

"The following is the price list for some high quality diamonds in your size range"

.80 G VVS1 $4500
.83 G VVS2 $4500
.81 F VVS1 $4500 stong blue florescence
.81 G VS2 $3900
.80 F VS2 $4000

I don't think anyone on the forum can give you advice without knowing what lab graded those diamonds, need ASET and Idealscope images.

My e-mail exchange with seller has me concluding these are GIA as he finished stating: "I liked the old cut stones I showed you that cost less."

anyways....I have been informed I may have my grandma's old school engagement ring. I plan on using the center stone for my custom Victorian/Art Deco milgrain/filigree setting I have in the works. However, I don't really know the specs. of the ring. I will have to find a trusted person to tell me. How do I post a pic of it here? If this stone is to my liking it will look awesome with the setting! I have reasons to believe its an old cut due to the fact that the ring is circa 1930s.

ok...just got some insight from David Atlas!!! Thanks to him, I learned from my low-quality photos that the ring is circa 1930s and a decent diamond. There's some chip or visible inclusion at the 6 o'clock area? If so...is a re-cut a smart thing to do? will a diamond crumble and is this too risky? remember, I have yet to see this ring in-person.

so...Grace herself from Jewels by Grace stated it appeared bigger than .80 and repairing it if needed was a smarter way to go than buying a new stone.

You all eagle eyes but I went ahead and got the ring examined by a local jeweler, in business since the 70's. Spoke with him before and I liked his customer service.
He stated the following about my grandma's ring:

1. circa 1930's
2. Round Brilliant cut
3. H-I color
4. I1 clarity
5. .80 carat
6. Chipped at girdle and fracture at pavillion
7. should be re-cut; would go down to .50-60 carat $350-450

He stated that it would be very risky to have it set in a bezel style and that it should be repaired for sure if worn daily, which would increase the risk for further damage. My father is very against re-cutting so I doubt I'd have his blessing and ultimately the ring to do it.

I was now wondering if the diamond could be set in a way that would cover/protect the chipping thus halting additional stress on the stone. I like this heirloom tradition; building on an old legacy while starting my own!
