Hey there everyone. I used this site to get great information about the engagement ring I bought 11 months ago. Really a wonderful site that I can''t speak highly enough about.

I ended up getting a stone from blue nile and got the setting from a B and M place that sells Sholdt because I liked their semi bezel settings. My girlfriend really likes the ring but showed it to me yesterday because the stone is loose. I can almost rotate the stone all the way around in the setting. Bummer. Kind of disappointed- I thought it would last at least till the wedding before I needed to fix it. She doesn''t remember bumping it or dropping it. I called the jeweler who says he can fix it (which is a bit weird because when I had it set- Sholdt required that I send it to them because they were the only ones that could do settings "properly") but wants to charge me more $ and I have to leave it with him for two weeks. I emailed Sholdt and they say take it to a jeweler.

Any advice on what to do? Is this common for stones to become loose in less than a year? It just seems strange that Shodlt was very particular when it was set that I had to send it to them but then when it breaks in less than a year- they send me to anyone else. Thanks.

First I would not wear the ring until the ring has been checked by a pro, you don''t want to risk losing the diamond. As for Sholdt telling you to take it to a jeweller, is the setting under any kind of warranty or guarantee of theirs?

Thanks Lorelei.

She''s not wearing the ring now until we can get it looked at.

As far as the warranty goes- they didn''t say anything when I emailed them. Its not a huge deal really- just never heard of it happening to anyone I know- especially in such a short period of time. What do you think?

Ok, I was curious as sometimes with these branded settings you get a warranty/ guarantee with them but if you have an outside jeweller fix it if something goes wrong then you can void any coverage you might have, hence why I wondered if you did have a warranty with the setting and Sholdt would fix it for free. It sounds like this isn''t the case, what I would do is double check that you don''t have a warranty, if you do then Sholdt should fix it for you, if not then get a jeweller of your choice to fix it but check for sure first. I would give them a call to check.
