Looking to make gold/natural diamond replica of a fake ring.

My girlfriend has a cheap ring she got in a mall some years ago that she and I both like because of its delicate design.

It has a super thin band and really small stones, approximately .25 carats in the center and .05 accent stones on either side.
The setting is cheap and fake, and years of wearing it has made it ugly, so I would like to make a copy in white or rose gold with some diamonds I bought from blue nile.

The problem I am having is that it's so hard to find an affordable way to get a similar setting. Given the simplicity of the item and the extremely limited use of raw materials (band is so thin it would hardly take any gold to make), I expected I would be able to get this setting for at MOST $400.

Can anyone advise me as to what an appropriate price would be and where to source this setting? The diamonds I want to put in the new ring are slightly bigger than the fakes in the old (.08 carats, .37 carats, and .08 carats). The ring should be a size 6 with a narrow band. This is not an engagement ring, it's a right hand ring, so I hope you can understand why I'm not looking to spend a fortune. As far as material, I am looking for 10-18k white or rose gold.

I can set the stones locally if need be. I just really need to find a setting that looks somewhat like the photo and can house my stones, my budget for this ring in total was around $900.

Thanks to all for your attention and help.

Contact ID Jewelry and ask Yekutiel what he can do for you. Tell him you were sent by PS.

will do. Can you give me an idea of whether my budget is appropriate and what the best way to get this would be? Am I going to be limited to finding something mass produced off the market or can custom work be done in this price range given the simplicity?

Thanks bud.

PS*, any reason for recommending this place? They show a willingness to take simple projects?

So sweet of you to do this for her.

That looks like a pretty easy setting to source from stock. The problem might be your pre-bought stones. I am no expert, but I think it might be easier to let ID Jewelry do the whole thing for you. Or, I am wrong and they can tweak a setting to fit your stones.
Gypsy recommended them (probably) because they have access to a huge inventory and can produce beautiful jewelry on a budget.

I would try David Klass. Great prices and good work.

Yekutiel is willing to work hard for sales, even smaller ones, and he's great at understanding what the word "budget" means.

I would probably tell him you are hoping he can find you a stock setting in rose gold to fit a 25 point stone of I/J color well cut stone as the center with to 5 point side stones. Eyeclean for all of it.

I think it's possible for your budget. Something from Stuller would probably be what you'd end up with with preset sidestones. Which will be nice quality. This would probably work: http://www.stuller.com/products/7229/?groupId=36653 for example. Can be set with a 4.1mm center. Comes with sidestones. And comes in rose gold. You can even give him that link and ask him for a quote "out the door, including shipping" of this one in rose gold set with a diamond center. This one might work too: http://www.stuller.com/products/7684/?groupId=37427

Any idea what something like this setting should run me? I will contact both recommended persons tomorrow but I am sure they will ask me for my budget and I don't want to offend anyone with what sounds like a lowball; hence my posting here.

Start with getting their quote first. If it is in line with your budget, great. If not, tell them your $900 cap and see if they can do it. There is no such thing as getting offended if they want your business.

Re: Looking to make gold/natural diamond replica of a fake r

I am unclear on whether you have the diamonds or not.

If you have the diamonds. I think the setting will run you about 400-500 in the rose gold. If you don't have the diamonds, the cost of the diamonds will be added to that. so for an I/J uncertified 25 pointer I would expect to pay 250 or so. The 5 pointers would be additional.

I would tell them your budget is around 800 if you need them to source the stones. I would tell them your budget is about 500 OUT THE DOOR (including setting the stones for you) if you already own the stones.

Tell them your budget is really tight, and if they can come in under those amounts you would be grateful.

Thank you gypsy. I looked at that ring on stuller:
http://www.stuller.com/products/7229/?groupId=36653

I think that will work perfectly for me. I asked ID Jewelry about it and they said they wouldn't be able to help me if I didn't buy my diamond from them (I bought a diamond from bluenile already).

So I'm just looking for another jeweler who can use that stuller setting now. Anyone with a merchant relationship with them by the way who can tell me what the pricing is on the 4.1mm version in 10 or 14k x1? :saint:

I don't have that information, but .... hmm... you can try Wink at High Performance Diamonds. He's one of the nicest guys I know, tell him Gypsy said that he might be able to do you a favor and give you a ballpark on the price you can expect to pay.

Sure. I'll try that in the morning.

By the way, this is my center stone:
http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?track=head#diamonds_pid=LD02749885

I got it for $943/carat! 350 dollars total for .37 ex ex ex H SI2! It's beautiful I feel like I got such a good deal.

Re: Looking to make gold/natural diamond replica of a fake r

Hi, just a thought...are there any jewelry repair shops nearby you? I recently had two stones reset. There is a repair shop and they ordered the settings and took the stones I already had and took them out of the old mountings and put them in the new ones. It took about a week bc the settings had to be ordered. I called all around and their prices were 1/3 of other shops. It is a small locally owned business.
