A neighbor brought one over when I was really sick a few years ago. Seemed cumbersome to use so I was hoping for an easy-to-use, less-cumbersome model. Can you suggest one? DH and I currently having sinus problems and wicked sore throats and thought this may help.

Hi! Are you in a house or an apartment? Do you want a humidifier that works in conjunction with the heater for the house, or do you want a portable humidifier? My humidifier is an Aprilaire, and it''s hooked up to the heating unit for my house. I''m very happy with it.

Hi Diane, I have the Honeywell hcm-300T; I got it at Home Depot. It is a tall tower; the smaller ones aren't powerful enough or the water drops down to the ground and doesn't make it into the air. Mine was $60 or $70 at Home Depot; I noticed the ones at Target weren't very good either. I use it for my sinus also. I actually think the neti pot works better than the humidifier but the humidifier does help me.

I am in a house and was looking for a portable unit. Thanks!

I have used something similar to the neti pot...but it''s a squeeze bottle that you must use very gently. Haven''t used it in a while but I''m going to try tonight since you feel the neti works better. DH won''t use it so it appears I need to go by the Home Depot. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

we just bought this one. it comes in other colors, but we got the pink to go in the upcoming baby''s room. we had to get it early since hubs is getting over a nasty sinus infection and now i''m battling one.

This probably won't be helpful, since in all likelihood you're not a total nerd like me, but we got one at target that is shaped as a frog. They come in other animals as well...duck, penguin, etc. The elephant is also quite cute.

We've found it actually quite easy to refill, and it certainly helps the dry new england winter air.

Aha! I found a link that shows them:

That is absolutely adorable! I love the shape!

I just went to the local CVS drug store and picked up a Vicks brand. Not sure how well it will do since Skippy mentioned some machines did not have enough power, but I was hoping to get some relief and I was feeling worse by the minute. If it doesn''t help I''ll take it back.

You know, I think I have seen those at Target. Very cute! And I don''t think you are a nerd at all...nothing wrong with liking cute and whimsical things!!

I'm looking for a new humidifier, too, since our old one died. We used to have one we got at BBB, which used a demineralization cartridge and could be either warm or cool mist, and even though it worked okay, it got white dust all over everything, even when we used filtered water. Ultrasonic humidifiers have the same problem, so I think we're going to go with an evaporative unit this time. It also makes a difference how often you plan to use it -- ours runs pretty much 24/7 during the winter, so a sturdy unit is more important than a good-looking one. I think our old one wasn't designed for such heavy use, which is probably what killed it. You might have different needs, though.

Anyway, the three I'm considering are a Kenmore, a Vornado, and a Lasko. They all seem to be comparable, but the Vornado has a fan, which would be nice...though it's lower capacity. I don't know which one I'll get yet, but I think I'm going to pick one up tomorrow, so I'll report back on which I get.
