Hello everyone,

I've recently decided to take the plunge and propose to my girlfriend on our 5th year anniversary. The problem is, I know very little about diamonds and our 5 year is on July 5th. I've been doing research for the past week or so and feel that I've got it narrowed down. Unfortunately/fortunately it seems that every new thread I read contains a valuable piece of information that I did not know previously. If I had more time I would just keep reading, however, it's getting down to the wire and I just don't have the time if I want to propose on the 5th. I'm hoping to get a little advice on some stones I've been looking at on Blue Nile. Please let me know what you think of the stones I've selected or if you think I could find a better deal for around $1500 (for the centerstone). I'm planning on purchasing sidestones around .50 to .60 total ct. weight as well. Any advice is surlely appreciated.

Here is the setting I'm looking at: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-ring-platinum_5923?filter_id=1&collection_id=239

From the numbers, I prefer the G VS2.

The first or fourth could be good choices.

You opted for a 3 stone setting which is going to cost you extra for the sidestones.
But if the budget is all the same, I''d pick a simple setting and free more funds for a larger center, going lower in color to an I, a J even. Is your lady color sensitive?

I chose a three stone because I know that's what she wants. Not sure about the color thing and how sensitive she would be to it. As I'm buying the stone online I didn't want to take any chances and chose my search criteria to be on the safe side. You would go down to an I or a J to increase the size of the stone?

I think you'd still be pretty safe with an I SI1. Have you looked at stones in person? Does color bother you?

How about this 0.67 I SI1 signature ideal? It scores a 1.0 on the HCA, ex, ex, ex, vg ($1394).

BN also has some I SI1s in the 0.70+ range, but a few of the good looking ones have strong blue fluorescence, and I wasn't sure how you felt about that.

If you're not comfortable with SI1, how about this 0.64 I VS2? It scores 1.8 on the HCA, ex, vg, vg, vg ($1502).

I would go no lower than I to be on the safe side.

The first and fourth diamond I posted were the favorites so I may choose out of those two. Any thoughts on the stone phoenixgirl recommended? Now I''m second guessing if I am being to picky on color. Everything else about the diamond she found was in my search citeria and it is a little bigger. I''ll post the details below.

This one could be ok but an Idealscope image would be very useful for this one - but as we know BN don''t supply them. Colour is down to personal preference, an I should be fine and would allow you to get a slightly larger diamond.

Ditto. Original 4th, the safest.

I really appreciate the help Stone-Cold11 and Lorelei. Thanks again for your guidance!

If you care to see the finished product I can post it when I get the ring.

Thanks for all the help! I'll choose between the 4th from my original list and the one Stone-Cold recommended.

Any thoughts on these sidestones?

These are ok, the second out of the pair is best but I don't know if you have ever seen this size in person, they are absolutely tiny so these should match and be ok, no need to go too overboard IMO with trying to get perfection in these unless that is what you want.

I would love to see some pics of the finished ring, the 4th on the original list is the best choice in my opinion unless you want to go larger then you could go with the bigger one suggested.

Good Luck. :)
