Looking for some feedback/suggestions on this tension ring + rock

So, I was looking for a good diamond resource and stumbled on this place a couple of weeks back as I was starting to do some research for getting a e-ring for my girl. After some nights of heavy reading on the site, I convinced myself to stop lurking and actually get in on the fun!

My girlfriend has mentioned (in casual conversation) that she prefers simple, smooth, flowing designs over some of the more elegant rings out there. So, after I finished staring at awe at the Mark Morrell rings floating around here and getting that out of my system, I was thinking bezel or tension ring with a round stone. I think that her hands are on the smaller side, 5.5 is her ring size. But I digress...

The stone looks good, but if I said that I wanted a "simple, smooth, flowing design" I wouldn''t be thinking of a tension setting. Maybe I''m close-minded, but tension settings feel very modern to me, and I pictures a classic flowy solitaire, like the WF Legato Sleek Lines Solitaire. If you pair it with a diamond from WF, you get 10% off of the setting. This one looks nice, and it''s a tad bigger.

Very nice tension setting.

The diamond you chose is 5.2 mm so if you go with a 4.5 or 5 mm band your diamond will be wider than the band. You may want to go with a 5.5 mm band if you want the band to be wider. I would go with the 5 mm or 5.5 mm band.

I think she will love it.

Would 5.5mm be considered too thick for an e-ring? I think I''m leaning towards the band not being as thick as the diamond - since a wedding band would hopefully go on the same finger!

Also, the "classic flowy solitaire" was my idea of a nice one too! Alas, she has a mental block on the raised prong setting - seems to be worried about it getting "stuck" on things (hose, etc.) I tried to convince her that those prongs are smoothed out and polished, but... to no avail.

I saw some nice Krementz settings on the Unique Designs website. They are located in the Gift Center in San Francisco. I bought my first diamond in one of the showrooms there when I lived in SFO. I have been talking to Jeff about setting my new diamond and he has been great. I live in Texas now but can order online.

Some of the simpler settings, though not tension settings, look kinda "flowing" to me.

Oh, and the polished titanium choice? I admit - the idea of using something that strong (and light!) to "protect" the rock is appealing to me as an engineer. (although it''s not really protecting it, admittedly)

Well I see you have done your homework!

Others have suggested some great tension settings, but here is style that I think is beautiful and kind of different. I don''t remember where this picture came from, but there is a well-known designer who makes lots of rings like this...can''t think of the name right now, but I''m sure someone else could help if you''re interested.

How about some more choices then?

I kept thinking about the words you chose, smooth and flowly and I was thinking of bezel set and thought maybe you might want to check out the Ritani Endless Love collection ... some really nice settings.

I do not think 5.5 would be too thick, if that is the only band you have. I have a friend with a similar ring and she chose not to have a wedding band. She just has the one tension band with her diamond. I think it looks great. Just an idea.

Maybe you could show your future wife several pics and get her feedback. The proposal would still be a suprise. My husband let me help pick out my ring and I am glad he did. We had it narrowed down to two or three so it was still a suprise.

I personally like the idea of a bezel more than a tension--more feminine--and still would accomplish the no-catching on hose thing.

When you said flowing, the first designer I thought of was Krikawa.

I'd put that gorgeous stone into something like this (scroll down toward the bottom):
