Hi everyone,
I''m a long time lurker...I joined about a year ago and am getting ready to update the setting of my grandmother''s ering.
Backstory...My grandmother left her ering to my Dad, and when he passed, my Mom inherited it. Long story short, it stayed in my mom''s jewlry box for decades- it was the first lovely fine piece of jewelry I had ever seen, and I have fond memories as a child asking my Mom to take it out so I could look at it.
A few years ago, my Mom surprised me and gave it to me (she didn''t want me to get it as a result of her passing, and feels life is too short and that I should enjoy it now- my Mom is a lovely, lovely person). My grandmother and Mom apparently did not get along, so my Mom has no attachment to it, and told me I could do with it as I please.
Its a .75 Old European Cut in a beautiful platinum setting. I always loved it, but when I wear it, it just doesn''t feel like its mine. I did not know my grandmother, and while I''d like to update the setting, I''m hesitant only because of this perception that I have that its an antique/heirloom (and I would be crazy to touch it). Does this make sense?
Should I just leave it as is? If I do, I''ll likely not wear it, but would put it away for my daughters down the road.
If I do update the setting, I am thinking of a delicate halo in rose gold. I just think that would help compliment the beauty of the stone (which is very white, but absolutely gorgeous). And, it would indeed be more representatitive of my taste and style. Can anyone recommend an on-line vendor that does halos in rose gold?
