I have been dealing with one of the recommended dealers from this forum and would appreciate some additional opinions from the experts. The stone is a 1.40 G VS2 AGS 000 Hearts & Arrows diamond for $10,144. I have a copy of the AGS: Depth: 61.4% Table: 57% Crown: 34.8 Pavillion: 40.8 scored 1.5 ex,ex,ex,vg on the HCA. The dealer does not have the stone yet, so no pictures. The rep I have been talking too has been very helpful, but apparently this dealer doesn''t have or use a MegaScope, BScope, or Lightscope. From a consumers perspective, I have found this to be useful info, but don''t know if it''s necessary. Despite my attempts to protect the innocent, many of the experts here probably already know who I''m dealing with. Should I be concerned about not having the additional info available? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion (and I have no idea whom you are talking about), there is enough info there to take the stone given a "no question asked" return policy. This diamond has great chances to be a greta stone: I know there are stones out there which bark just as loudly with or without the HCA score, but those are (thakfully) uncommon. If you find one, you would be the one in a thousand, so a few days wasted inspecting a stone you might want to return later would not be wasted. All in all, an IdealScope (and my own BS-scope, hands-on-diamond) would complete the diagnostic from my point of view.

A different perspective may also be: get a stone with all info your hart desires and there will be no more room for doubt.

How about the two G-Vs stones (1.31 G-VS2 and 1.53 G-Vs2) on the "to be listed" line up at GOG? There's going to be more info on those stones than one can wish for... and surely they'd know one thing or two about them already to jot down in an e-mail...

I guess it is up to you. It does not seem obvious that the extra info is going to push the price up a lot.

Here are the measurements 7.17 - 7.22 - 4.42 if it helps form an opinion. Thanks again for the input.

When the Vendor does get the diamond, have them email you pics and an Ideal Scope image. Once you see those, you'll have better basis to make a decision on whether you would like to see the diamond.

The diamond sounds like a sparkler, but your eye will be the ultimate judge. If the Vendor has a "No Questions Asked" refund policy, it could be worth a look. All you will be out is return shipping costs of about $20 if you don't like the diamond.

The Megascope uses the AGS cut grading criteria for its report. As an AGS graded stone the Megascope issue is resolved. As to the Lscope and the Bscope, they will measure light-loss and light-return and are useful additional information but I do not think necessary.

I wouldn't be concerned at ALL. Yes, the gadgets are nice to have, but at the end of the day......I don't consider them necessary.

For the cost of a phone call, you can find out all you want to know. Get on the horn with the vendor when he has the stone in hand and ASK him what he thinks of the cut. Does the stone perform as well as the numbers suggest it should?

To me, the endorsement of a good independent appraiser is more valuable than all the gadgets combined. I found my appraiser, Rich Sherwood, FAR more valuable than l/scope, b/scope, etc.

HE said my stone was a blazing inferno, and that's all the reassurance I needed. And he was right!
