At Neil's suggestion, I am starting another thread specifically asking for suggestions for an appraiser in NYC. My bf has inherited a diamond that no one knows anything about, clearly it needs to be appraised so we can insure it and get it set.
There's no reason to send to GIA since it will never be sold, so I'm hoping the resident experts here can suggest some appraisers in the NYC area that you have used. I know there are some appraisers listed under "resources," and I am happy to go to one of them, if there is someone that people think is the best of the bunch.
As an aside, when I send a stone to an appraiser, what product am I purchasing? A description of the stone, cut, carat weight, color grade, clarity obviously, but what about angles and percentages? Will he include an inclusion map like a GIA cert does? ASET images? Should we want these? I'm sorry, I'm sure these questions have all been covered before
Thanks!
