Hello PriceScope people. I'm looking for a diamond for an engagement ring and although this lovely website has been incredibly useful and educational already, I'm still nervous about picking the right one. My intended and I found a great setting together at a local B&M jewelry store, which needs about a 2ct diamond. This store is of course eager to sell me a diamond as well and I've already got a deposit on one they showed me (along with others in the same price range). I googled the GIA # and actually found the same stone listed here:

This includes IdeaScope and ASET images among others. HCA is 2.4. I'm not sure how they can list it since they obviously don't have it (I've looked at it in the store several times). Anyway, the store is asking $20,100 for it, significantly more than the website above ($17,070). It's SI2 but it does look good with the naked eye to me (but I have zero experience looking at diamonds). Still, the price difference compared to online diamonds with similar specs made me nervous, so I asked the store for lower price options. I was shown two EGL (not sure which location) H SI2 stones around $12,000. I could definitely notice a big difference, even with the naked eye (for example the color was also H, but looked way darker, and the inclusions were clearly visible). Reading more about the various grading labs I definitely want to stay away from EGL stones. They had nothing to show in between these two price points right now (which seems fishy).
I've done a poor job setting a budget, but it's hard when there are so many variables to consider. Now that I have some context I'm thinking of trying to find a GIA diamond online around the $14,000-15,000 range, prioritizing cut over color and clarity. It seems there are plenty of ~2ct diamonds with excellent cut available in that range. Does this sound reasonable? Or is the jewelry store price above fair?
Neither my GF or I are "into" diamonds, and we will not be looking at it under a scope (after purchasing it anyway). But it's a once-in-a-lifetime purchase and I just want to get her a quality diamond. I don't mind spending a good chunk of money on it, I just really don't want to be taken for a ride.
Sorry for the lengthy post, I just decided to throw it out there and get some experts' opinion on it. Thanks very much in advance!
