Ok , guys, i need your help. I have just rid off ring my fiance gave to me. It’s a long story, may be I tell it later. To be short he bought this ring at the jewelry store with NO return policy. Stupid, is’nt he!

Now I look for new engagement ring. Reading your advices I understood that i should find diamond i like first. I know what setting i want- Pave halo.

What do you think about this classification of diamond and what price range applies to it?

Carat: ~ 1 round brilliant
Measurement: 6.50 by 6.50 by 4
Certif: GIA
Cut: Exellent
Color : I or H
Cparity: SI1 or VS2
Polish: Very good or exellent
Symmetry: Very good or exellent
Depth: 59-62.5%
Table: 53-58%
Fluorescence: None
Girdle: Medium or Medium to Slightly thick
Culet: none

I found that SI2 clarity has different inclusions, is some of than better avoid? Which one :
Feather, Crystal, Needle,cloud, knot,natural, twinning wisp,extra facet,cavity

In another topic i read about pavilion angle and crown. How it’s important for quality diamond?

Well, I hope your fiance is okay with you starting over! Too bad he didn't come here or we could have helped him!

Let me add a few suggestions to your specs above. But first, do you have a budget for the ring?

GIA Excellent cut or AGS Ideal cut are the two labs and grades you want to look for.

You can probably stick with Excellent polish for GIA or Ideal/Excellent for AGS.

Depth 60-62.0, but you can go to 62.3

Table 54-57

Fluorescence is not bad. It will save you a little money if you can find one with your specs!

Girdle can be from thin to slightly thick (not thinner than thin or thicker than slightly thick :-)

Crown angle 34-35.0

Pavilion angle 40.6-41.0

Don't worry about SI2 inclusions since you are looking for VS2 and SI1. Each stone has to be evaluated individually.

When you find some stones that interest you, post the numbers here and we can give you some opinions. I'll post a few to get you started.

Both Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash carry Vatche and can get you the Vatche Grace and many other halo settings.

diamondseeker2006, thank you for your suggestion.

I would probably go to clarity SI2 to get a little large diamond , maybe 1.10-1.14. I am going to spend between 5,500 and 6,500 for diamond. Is it possible to find diamond for this price?

"Fluorescence " - i was told by jeweler that it make diamond 'milky" and reduce sparkling. Is it true?

Yes, of course he is OK! He knew that I am very picky and bought a ring just to propose, hoping to return or exchange. Bu suddenly we stacked with untrusted store and lost money, but rid of these people we are happy than ever even loosing money.

This can be true but it seems very rare from what I have seen here on PS. You can ask the vendor if a particular stone
is affected negatively by the fluorescence.

Here are a few you could look into. Ask if the stones are eye-clean...and at what distance you start to see something.

A very small percentage of stones with very strong fluorescence might have a negative effect from it. But most with medium or strong do not and you can save money because of the misinformation out there! Here is an example of a great one:

Twining wisps can be a very good inclusion to have because many cannot be seen with the eye.

Here is a nice stone:

I would call Yekeutiel at ID Jewelry and tell him you heard about him on Pricescope and mention what you are looking for. His prices tend to be great and he does some awesome work for PSers so he knows what kinds of expectations you will have for quality and cut. he carrys Vatche so he should be able to get you a great deal on the setting too and it would be convenient to do it all with one vendor...
