Looking for an Asscher

Okay, like so many other asscher-seekers, I''m trying to gather a set of parameters to guide my shopping for an asscher cut (and I use that term in its most generic sense) diamond. I understand asscher diamonds can''t easily be rated solely "by the numbers". That said, recommendations on finding a place to start would be appreciated.

My budget is right around $10,000.

Realizing I may get the, "you have to see it, hold it, feel it, love it" response, could I get some feedback on the these specs on a diamond available from James Allen (see attached pic):

Interesting, this is another squarish emerald as opposed to an assher--see how the center is a rectangle and not a square? I don''t mind this look because it has a nice antique look to it, but it seems like the past few months there have been several of these on the board.

It seems a teensy bit deep and I''m wondering if it was cut for size (the 1.51)--I notice the windmills are a little small, but some like that. I actually have an asscher with smaller windmills. The patterning seems nice...hopefuly Strm will weigh in.

To be honest, I think the price is a wee bit steep on this stone, perhaps because of the VVS2 clarity?

I do see the more rectangular-ish shape, and I much rather prefer a better proportioned square stone. I think I was distracted by the color and clarity even though the numbers (and visual evidence) was right in front of my face!

I don''t mind the smaller windmills, though I''ve also seen more octagonal asschers (more like the original asscher) with the wider windmills and I''ve been attracted to that aesthetic as well. Probably should check up with the girlfriend on that one...though I don''t think she''s even noticed that specific characteristic of the cut. Give her a stepped emerald with cropped corners and she''s happy!

Another question--I''ve seen on other threads that Storm recommends a crown of 10-15%. I assume that''s the crown height in proportion to the overall height of the stone? That information doesn''t seem to be given, at least on James Allen''s site. Would this be part of the additional information I can request when researching a particular stone further?

When asking for information, just ask for the Sarin report, that will give you the crown height. You will also need to ask for the Ideal scope image. That one does seem a bit steep like NEL said.

I found this one, which is a little over your budget, but with the pricescope discount, it will be closer to your budget. Of course you will need to ask for the Ideal Scope and Sarin Report so it can be better judged.

Another question--I've seen on other threads that Storm recommends a crown of 10-15%. I assume that's the crown height in proportion to the overall height of the stone? That information doesn't seem to be given, at least on James Allen's site. Would this be part of the additional information I can request when researching a particular stone further?

That has since been changed to 10% or higher with no upper limit.
The vendor can run a sarin/ogi scan and get the crown height.

excellent analysis.
I would add that the stone is tilted in the picture and there are some symmetry issues that may or may not be the result of the tilt so if this diamond is still in consideration more pictures are needed.

Thanks all. I am no longer considering this particular stone. Thanks to the great information on this site I feel like I have since developed a better sense of what to look for in seeking THE stone for her. I certainly will seek opinions again as I continue my search.
