Hi everyone! Coming out of long-time lurkdom to seek advice on a RHR project of mine. I''ve been dazzled by the many beautiful cushions on PS as of late, and I''m trying to decide between two options right now:

1) Five stone ring with a chunky faceted cushion as the center stone:

--or--

2) Three stone ring with modern cushions (medium faceted) all around, like MMM''s gorgeous ring:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-three-stone-cushion-is-here.22964/

I have a $20K budget for everything, so I''m looking for a 1.7-1.8 ct center stone within the G/H VS2-SI1 range. If anyone comes across a stone like this, I''d love to see it. I''ve already gotten in touch with Mark T at ERD, and I''ll eventually be sending everything to Leon Mege so that he can work his magic for the setting! So excited to get this project on its way! Thanks so much in advance for your help!!!

ooo, another Leon to look forward to. I vote for the 5-stone...i adore that setting for a cushion and also as a RHR...

Wow! If that''s your RHR I wonder what you''re left hand ring is!!! I like the second one ONLY because the first looks like an engagement ring and the three stone looks like an anniversary ring.

I just adore antique style cushions! So I''d either choose #1 or a halo similar to MrsSalvo''s new ring..Leon does both so well!

I love moremoremore''s ring, but the trick will be finding such fabulous, well-proportioned cushions.

You could even get it in a classic Leon three-stone setting.

Mrssalvo: Just love your beautiful DanielK! *swoon* Can''t wait to see it on your hand!!! Your ring is definitely one that has inspired me to get a cushion in the first place.

Hera: Thanks for your input! I probably won''t be wearing both my ER and RHR at the same time. Call it blasphemy, but it may be a lil'' too much bling all at once! I do agree though that the three stone looks more like an anniversary ring, which is a nice perk. That''s part of the dilemma...

DS: LM really does do everything so well, it''s so hard to narrow down the choices! I definitely haven''t ruled out a halo just yet...I was looking at this one earlier:

What do you think? One bonus is that this way I could probably go with a slightly larger stone, perhaps around 2 ct.

Cara: Yup it *will* be awfully hard to find three cushions that are proportionate. That''s part of the reason that I can''t get a chunky faceted three stone ring. The antique looking stones are apparently not so easy to find, so if I''m dead set on one of those, I''ll have to go for the five stone ring or a halo. But regardless, I''m going to have Leon do the setting. If I go with the three stone, I''d want to make the shank of the ring relatively thin, likely around 2.5 mm or so.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your posts! Keep ''em coming.

I think that halo setting is beautiful, but I would favor one like MrsSalvo''s for myself.

Ooooh, I love that five stone (choice #1) by Leon. It''s etched into my brain. I''m not usually crazy for 5 stones, but that Leon cushion 5-stone is so impeccably well-proportioned and each stone truly allows you to enjoy its individual shape without simply blending together in a big clump o''diamonds. Can''t wait to see what you end up with.

I would choose the 5 stone hands down. I''d love to own something like that myself. Good luck!

Thanks so much, DS, pixley, and lyra! Over the past couple days, I''ve decided that I must have a chunky faceted cushion, since every time I see a picture of one, my heart goes pitter-patter.

So I''m nixing the idea of a three stone ring with all cushions, since Mark thinks it''ll be near impossible to find three well-proportioned cushions like that.

Now the dilemma is: should I go with the five stone ring that I originally posted (half moons and bullets), or simplify somewhat and go for just the bullets by themselves:

My stone won''t be nearly as big, but I like this look as well. Any thoughts?

Oh lordy, I like that one too

, but I like the 5 stone better. However, the size of the center stone definitely impacts the overall setting and I''ve no doubt Leon could give you an immediate preference as to which style would better suit a 1.7 - 1.8 center stone. My recommendation would be to source your stone first, then let Leon see it and give you his thoughts on what it can handle with respect to side stones. Either way, it''s going to be faboo!

Thanks, pixley--that''s a good idea! I''ll wait and see what input Leon has on the matter. He is the master, after all! I completely trust his eye.

Can''t wait for Mark to find me the *perfect* stone! I know it might take a while, but I''m eager to have it in my hot paws already...!

I love them both. You can''t go wrong with either one so I completely understand your dillema.

Thanks, fabcrab...It''s a tough albeit nice dilemma to have.

The five stone is sweet and romantic. The three stone is classy and sleek. If only I could have ''em both!

Five stone

Yup... 5-stone most definitely.

i agree with pixley to source your stone first and then discuss it with Leon. whether you choose a 3 or 5 stone, either from Leon will be amazing. can''t wait to see what cushion Mark finds you.

Any news on this project *sparkle*? I also love the 5 stone style and would love to know if you are further along with finding a center for your project.

Ditto on that! Any updates?

leons five stone is stunning but the stone looks to be large--when scaling down in size to accomodate a smaller stone those two half moons may have tobe merged into one. just fyi--sometimes design dont translate exacty for different size stones

Another vote for the five stone chunky cushion ring by leon...so lovely!!!! I also love the cushion he has on his site that has a split shank too!

Half moons and bullets five stone. DEFINITELY. Hands down. No contest.

I can''t wait to see this!!

Wow thanks so much everyone for your input and interest!!

To give you all an update, Mark found me a gorgeous center stone with the following stats:

2.55 ct D VS2
8.7 x 7.8 mm
60% table
65% depth
SB fluorescence
Length to width ratio 1.11

The stone is a real beauty, but it's a bit larger than originally planned! Because of my size 3.5 finger, Leon has advised against the 5 stone ring. So sorry to disappoint you all--I really would've loved to have that setting. But in any case, now I'll have to go with the tapered bullets alone or a simple solitaire ala Boston Jeff.

I'm leaning towards the tapered bullets because I already have a RB solitaire. But of course I'd still love to hear what you guys all think! Will attempt to post pics of the cushion below.

A D/VS 2.66 ERD super deeeeluxe cushion? Whooohoooo! How exciting! Will you post pictures of the layouts if you decide to go with the sidestones? I love to see how things look before they're set. It's such a fascinating process.
