First off, I just wanted to say "hi everyone!" I've been reading this forum for a couple months and it has been unbelievably helpful in expanding my diamond knowledge. So thank you all for that!

After 11 years of dating :o , I've finally decided to take the plunge and ask my girlfriend to marry me  . But first, I need to pick a diamond! This is my first time buying a diamond, so any help that you can offer would be awesome! I'm looking for the best possible GIA graded, 1ct - 1.05ct, ideal cut, colorless (D-E-F) stone that I can find on an approximately 10k budget.

I found a diamond on Ritani that seems to have pretty good specs, so I went ahead and set up an in-store preview for it in mid-January. I'm curious, how does this diamond look to the experts here? Should I keep looking to see what else is out there? Do you think I can do better for 10k? Or does this stone look great? Again, I'd love any help or thoughts you have, good or bad!

It looks like a beauty! Can you get ASET or idealscope

Unfortunately I don't think Ritani has ASET or Idealscope images. :nono: That seems like one of the downsides of going with them. But a Ritani diamond seems to save hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars over a diamond with the same specs from Whiteflash, Brian Gavin, James Allen, etc. Having never done this before, I'm not sure how much risk I'm taking without the ASET images, or if that tradeoff in price is worth it.

I bought my diamond thru Ritani online on one of their tax free sales. You can set up a virtual consultation with a gemologist with up to 4 stones, they talk to you over the phone while you see a live feed of the diamonds. They do not offer idealscope. You did mention you were going to do in store preview, you should ask the retailer you are using if they have access to an idealscope to do it. Considering mine was an AGS000 and already graded ideal in light performance i did not see the need to go any further for images (in my case). The diamonds that have images usually have been included in someone's comparison consultation. I will tell you that the process for ordering online was flawless and the diamond was about 1k cheaper than i found on any of the other online retailers. It took me 6 months to find a diamond in my specs and in my DH's budget haha.

ETA: the Ritani reserve diamonds always have images and HD video, its the virtual selection that has to be brought in. In my case the 2 diamonds i was comparing were in their NY office so i had a consultation the next day.

How will you set it! It looks like lovely but I'm not an expert.

Pretty sure the image is just the generic image they put for diamonds without a real image.

It reads on paper and looks like a beautiful stone. ritani also has beautiful settings. I love their halo settings.

It'll be a simple halo setting, but I haven't 100% locked down which one yet.

The photo posted above is an actual image of the diamond. This is Ritani's standard stock image: detail_primary_round.jpg
