Hey PSers!

After seeing almost every jeweler in a 50-mile radius of Birmingham (Alabama), I still haven''t found a B&M store that I trust enough to buy a stone from. So, we have decided to buy a stone on-line. I really have liked Whiteflash''s feedback and I like the selection - but I am at a loss. I need to know specific questions to ask! I don''t know much about diamonds and neither does he - I just want a thorough set of questions that will ensure that I get the best diamond for our budget (around 6k for the stone) without actually seeing it!

I know that I would like to stay in the 1-1.1 carat, G-I color, and VS1-SI1 range. And I love the H&A, but any diamond that has ideal or excellent polish and symmetry will do. However, these factors are just from what I have looked at from the vendors on PS. So, they aren''t set in stone.

I know that this may be confusing, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie!

Your requirements are fine for your diamond! You can either check out the selection WH has online, particularly their A Cut Above for H&A or Expert Selection, or contact them and tell them your specs, they will then be able to suggest suitable diamonds for you. They are used to taking care of their clients and advising them, you can safely put yourself in their expert hands! Other than that, diamonds which are AGS0 or GIA Excellent can help you find a well cut diamond more easily, although each will need researching to verify cut with it's proportions etc. Idealscope and ASET images can be useful here too.

Hi, Stephanie,

Welcome to PS.

This is an easy one to consider (priced at $5917 with discount), among many.

Use this for additional help.

Regards, and happy hunting,

I don''t think you can really go wrong with an ACA in the 1-1.1 G/I range!! If you have a couple of favorites, I''d reserve them and then post them here for opinions. ES stones can be great too and save you a little money.

Thanks for the suggestions - good to know that I am somewhat on a right path. Some other questions I have:

- What is "facing up"? Is that just the spread or can it be color as well? (e.g. looks whiter than it is)
- How often does WF update the inventory? Many that I have looked at are marked as sold or on reserve. Should I wait to see what else comes along? He doesn''t really want to wait too much longer before making a stone purchase.

Thanks again - this forum is amazing and we would be lost without it!

Are you doing your search from Pricescope? On Whiteflash''s search engine, the sold or reserved stones will not come up. Try using that instead.

Instead of looking at diamonds already listed, which can be scooped up by other buyers, contact WF and tell them what you want. Don''t wait to see it listed online. Let them do the searching for you. Remember, cut is most important. You can''t just look at symmetry and polish and think that that will tell you about the quality of the cut.

It''s both. A diamond can "face up" larger or smaller due to depth or girdle, or it can "face up" whiter if it''s well-cut.

About every 6 weeks, and I believe the last shipment in that range was around the beginning of May.

Thank you all for the help!

Hopefully there will be pictures of a ring soon!
