I've been looking at the above ring and love the style. it would make a perfect engagement ring and my girlfriend would be blown away. the ring is a bit more than my soon to be wife would like me to spend on it, and i'm looking for alternatives with the same style. i'd love to find an antique with the same taste in mind if and i'd appreciate any help.

i'm looking for the ring only, as i have a diamond. here's a few pictures of the stone. 1.1ct and is an emerald cut stone.

with the ring i want, i would have to have it customized for the stone i'd like, which is about 1/3 of the cost of the ring, plus shipping and still having the diamond set and sized. i'm just looking for suggestions or items anyone may have.

So this branch like, organic, asymmetrical band with scattered pave in it, this is what you're hoping to find?

I feel pretty confident in saying you won't find a used ring like that already to fit your stone, if you could find one at all.

What's your budget? Which elements would you be willing to give up and which elements need to stay?

What's your budget?

this is the design i like, yes. i'm willing to give up the inset stones, but i do like the offset it will have with the center stone. i dont want the outer stones to overpower the stone i'm going to use, as its not a very large one to begin with. i like the branch look/mangrove look that the ring has. a little more design than the typical ring we've seen so many times. she would be happy with whatever she gets, thats not the issue, i just like the art/custom look to it, and its uniqueness compared to everything i've seen. any direction is appreciated.

budget would preferably be around 1k with the basket setup for the emerald cut. she's found a few rings in the 600-700 dollar range, and i just feel like i'm limiting myself by looking in that pricerange for a setting. most look to "industrial" and "rough" for that pricerange.

I get what you're saying.

I will say this, that exact setting isn't necessarily going to be all that flattering with the shape stone you've selected. The emerald cut is modern and geometric, it takes the right kind of design to juxtapose these two design ideas well.

However it can be done and I think if you're open to other ideas you'll be able to find something nice. What you say makes it sound like first and foremost uniqueness is important. You want it well made, and like the more organic looks.... And no set budget but they and keep it around 1k... Is that right?

That was exactly my first thought. They are opposite in my mind and just won't click well together. Are you sure this is really what
your GF wants with an EC? Did she ask for the EC? Perhaps if you can set the EC at some kind of angle to make it look more
organic?

The stone was her late fathers, we'd like to use it. She has a taste for rings, but this one's special. I don't want it to look like all the others, nor does she. We are high school sweethearts and together for 11 years with a couple dogs and and a lovely home. I'd like to make that work but I'm open to suggestions. What looks best with this cut? I'mopen to blue stones to compliment the diamond instead of cz's or small white stones. Thanks for all the input

I think something like this could work. I don't know how much it is from the original designer, but I can think of someone who could probably replicate it for that stone in your budget. I might also consider setting the stone long ways instead of the typical north south orientation. It gives you that unique factor you want and would flatter an organic design

I hadn't considered which direction to go with the stone, but this makes sense when looking at the previous link. I like the design but would like the band a to have more than a single branch in the design.

Hmm OK. I know what you said about the multi branches, but I'll throw one more design out at you. I think it would look cool with the stone set either direction. More unique set long ways, but I'd set it however she likes best

So she likes settings that are way out of the box. I would be sure she would wear this before spending all that money. As you do wear this ring the rest of your life which is why you should be sure she'd be into this . It is a very unusual setting.

Hi thanks Niel for posting! I originally was going to do my emerald cut in a stone before I ended up doing the rose cut shown above. Amcor designs in NYC did it and it was very reasonably priced. They could custom make that design to fit her stone.

Here is a "branch" type setting with an emerald cut. As you can see price-wise...still up there. That price also includes the
emerald moissanite so it probably would be a little cheaper but not enough to pick this one over the other one you really like.

she really loves this one, and would like to rotate the stone 90*. this was a great suggestion.

The prongs on this setting are amazing. Turning it 90 degrees (we call this East/West) vs the usual N/S placement would also
give it more of that unique organic feel that I think you are going for.

Love the fact that it's a heirloom stone!

I also really like that last setting that Neil posted. It also looks more unique with the prongs located at the center of the sides of
the stone vs. the corners. I'm afraid that all your choices (which now I'm really liking) are still not going to get you into a much
lower price frame. You'll call these vendors and get some quotes. Good luck and please do come back and post your ring!

That simple branch design might be something for David klass. He's a designer that will do custom work. Assuming he can do that branch look, I'm pretty confident he would be in budget.

Or amcor, the people who made that oval setting I posted above, might also be able to do it in budget, sense that oval setting is in budget, and that's more detail and diamonds

i really appreciate the feedback everyone. Does anyone have a recommendation in south florida? i'd like to see some work up close, brainstorm and draw it up in person if possible.

I dont know any. Maybe start a new thead and ask?

However, lots of places that do custom work will provide cads and drawings for you, even if they have to be via email istead of computer. It might be more important to find a vendor who is good at this type of design first, rather than one that's just close.

Thanks Niel. i've talked with my girlfriend, and the ideas are exciting for her. ive got an idea of what we're looking for now, and some better descriptions, i.e branch style and orientation of the stone. thanks for the help. if anyone else has someone in mind that can assist with custom work i'd appreciate it.

If you like that ring on Etsy, I would contact the shop and either send them your stone or the measurements of your stone and have them make one for you. That is by far going to be the simplest and most foolproof method.

Yeah that's probably the easiest. The one thing I'd mention about that is if you only send them the measurements, make sure to include the cut corners of your emerald cut along with your other measurements. I once had a setting made for an emerald cut without taking into consideration how the cut corners would fit in the basket, they ended up making the setting too big for the stone :(
