I''m new here so please bear with the probably already asked questions!

My BF has given me a $5000 budget. I have found a setting that I like - pave with milgrain, maybe a cathedral shape.
I need help with what you think my cost could/should be and where to look to find good prices online.

I want to go as large as possible but still have a darn near colorless, great cut rock :)

Any opinions would be great.

If you can let us know how much the setting is, so we know how much youve got to spend on the diamond alone we can start looking for some awesome rocks for you. :)

The setting is between $1000-1800. Sorry for the range but I''m still deciding!

Thanks!!!

At what point to do you really start seeing yellow? Such as the J in the previous post?

I wouldn't go as low as J, especially if you're doing a white gold or platinum setting. Granted.. in a well cut stone, the color is harder to see, and I think the majority of people will say that the lowest they'd go is I and it will probably face up pretty white but may have some tint of yellow from the side. To be extra safe, and just in case you are very color sensitive, I'd stick to H at the lowest. If you don't mind a bit of color and/or aren't too color sensitive (or if you don't mind sacrificing a bit of color for size/cut) then I color would probably be fine too.

You might find this thread helpful: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/j-color-stones-in-platinum.24731/

It has loads of photos of J colour diamonds in platinum. No yellow in sight! :)

I wouldn't describe J colour diamonds as being yellow. Certainly they are warmer than a D colour stone, but no less beautiful.

Cartier and Tiffany actually both use I colour diamonds, so this is only one colour grade lower.

The most important thing is that if you buy a diamond with a great cut, it will stall look really white - as you can see in the pics in that thread. :)

If you don't know what your own tolerances are for colour, go to a store with really well cut diamonds (preferably AGSL or GIA certed) and ask to see some diamonds in different colour grades, and see how you feel about them.

You might like to also do a search on here for a pic of PSer Coatimundi's awwwwwesome K colour solitaire. It floors me each time I see it! :)

*ETA* Here's Coatimundi's K diamond :) https://www.pricescope.com/forum/op-requested/calling-coatimundi-i-want-to-see-your-rocks-t79354.html
