looking for a REALLY thin shank (like AGBF''s)

Hi all, I have fallen in love with the "paper thin" (aka "invisible") shank look such as AGBF''s ring (the one with the jackets, pics at https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-is-it-called-when.38516/ ). I asked WF if they could do one for me and they said no - they won''t go under 2 mm. Does anyone know where I could get a setting this thin, or of a vendor who would make one for me? I would want a yellow gold shank. Thanks for your help!

FYI my diamond will be a RB approx 1.25 carats.

Very very few jewelers will do it. Most stick to around 2mm for safety reasons. I asked a few to go below 2mm and was flat out refused. Some will go to 1.7ish, but that seems to be about it.

Just be aware that if you go this thin it won''t be a very practical everyday piece of jewelry AND if you can get someone to do it, likely they will build up the height of the band quite a bit so from the SIDE it will look very thick in order to compensate for the lack of width.

Im okay with height since i''m considering a shared prong semi eternity as a wedding band. I understand the durability issue, but AGBF said in the thread that her''s is very strong, because it the strength comes from the height. I''m sure i''m being stubborn,

but I was heartbroken when they told me it was a no-go, so I thought i''d try to find the setting elsewhere just in case.

I believe that AGBF just took the risk on despite the durability issues based on what I''ve seen from jewelers I have asked about this.

I just met with Leon Mege on Friday. He showed me a tiny micropave band, only 1.5 mm across. It''s a pretty extreme example, and Leon pointed out that there could be durability issues with it, but only slight and highly dependant on the wearer. According ot him, replacing the metal with diamonds can actually increase strength in some aspects since the diamonds are harder.

What if you just made a double row of eternity bands and put a crown on top of it in the center, and skipped the e-ring setting all together? This would be more cost effective, it wouldn''t have any durability issues, it wouold look pretty much the same, and I think WF would agree to do this.

KC...I never thought of that idea. I would definitely go that route although I''m not entirely sure I want an eternity band. I was also contemplating a very small engraved wedding band. I think two eternity bands would be overwhelming for me (i''m a pretty simple, plain-jane type

) I will definitely keep that in mind though!

Honestly? Yes. Just because you will be able to find someone to do it doesn''t mean you should. During my search I asked Mark Morrell, Leon, Mark at ERD, AND Whiteflash what the thinnest they would go was. Not one of them would go below 1.5 and most preferred to stay closer to 2mm.

So when some of the biggest names in the business are telling you not to do it, I would listen to them.

I''ve mentioned it before, and I really do need to post photos, because my DDIL has a ring just like that. It''s a 1+ carat princess with a trillion on each side, and the band is sooooo thin (from the top) that it really is almost invisible. The diamonds look like they are floating on her finger, and the ring (and the "look" is LOVELY.) She wears it with a simple, plain gold wedding band.

Yes, the ring shank is fairly DEEP, though... the durability comes from the depth, rather than the width. But it is not at all unattractive. And the ring seems quite sturdy and very durable. She has worn it every day for almost 4 years now and it still looks perfect.

I think it is a VERY do-able style. I wonder if WF didn''t quite understand your request?

Was your DDIL''s ring a custom job?
