Looking for a PS-trusted vendor who...

...takes other diamonds for a trade-in/credit toward one of their stones. I'm not looking to do this really soon, but I know that I will most likely want to upgrade in the next 4 or 5 years. Currently, I have a 100% upgrade policy with Diamonds Direct (which is great), but I'm also interested in online vendors. I know I'd probably lose a lot of money on a trade-in anywhere else, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this before... any experiences with this? Thoughts or advice??

I still think selling it on your own, directly to the other party without a middle man, is the best way to get your top $ back. Then use that $ to go to whichever jeweler you want.

Thanks madelise. I know selling directly would give me the most money, it's just the "finding someone who is in the market to buy" that's difficult.

What percentage would you expect to get from a vendor? I know it's not going to be great...

I know IDJ advertises that they buy diamonds. I have bought from him and the upgrade buy back is very fair; however, I don't know what the buy back would be if it was not one of his stones to begin with. It doesn't hurt to ask, though.

Try shopping your stone around to various vendors. I sold mine outright to Wink of HPD. His offer was very good and he was super nice and helpful.

Would try Adam @ OWD and Yeuketiel @ IDJ. Are you looking to upgrade to another MRB in a larger size or switch to a different cut altogether? That may determine who you would want to ultimately sell your diamond to.

I am looking to upgrade to another MRB (possibly an OEC) of larger size. If I were to go with the OEC, the color may stay the same or even down to K, depending... I am wondering what percentage I should expect for my trade-in though. Thanks!

I currently have a 2.43 ct, GIA XXX, J/SI1 (completely eye-clean), no fluro. I would like to upgrade to either a MRB XXX/Ideal, H/I, eye-clean, with fluoro if available, 9.5+ mm. (OEC with nice patter, I-K color, 9.5+ mm)

As far as buying they offered me about 1k more then others but still less then what I could have sold it for.

Msop04, the buy back was approximately 85% of what I paid but since I upgraded to double the price I paid initially, the buy back was 100% - he applied the entire amount towards my new upgrade. I think he buys back on an individual basis - he may not offer that to every diamond he sells (he told me this when I was inquiring about a buy back & upgrade since it is not "written" anywhere on his website -last I checked). The caveat is I bought my original diamond with him and so he was more willing to buy back since I also went with him with the upgrade.

I am sure any of the vendors that have B&M IDJ, ERD, GOG, Whiteflash..... You truly don't gget much for trade it howevver, try selling privately first

Hello, I just looked at the Diamonds Direct site and they offer 110% trade in when you trade up with them. So, that's pretty good from what I've seen but may not help if you want a branded cut, then you will do better privately.

BTW (asking sheepishly), in your possible future upgrade wishes, you mentioned possibly going to a bigger mrb carat but also higher color. I always thought I'd go J to max the size (get a setting like yours to highlight the best out of the stone), but your post makes me wonder if I should stay H/I and go smaller with a branded cut to stay in budget? Please lmk when you're ready to move on from your stone as it could be perfect for me, I think I'll be ready next year (mid to later in the year) to make my purchase.
