I was researching an upgrade for my EG when my mother recently decided this ring shouldn't live in a safety deposit box any more and I should just have it. I believe it is about 1.2 carats but I am still waiting to see the paperwork. My mother worked at a jewelry store in NJ in the late 60s and was able to purchase this ring at cost ($500) as a employee benefit. She was 19 years old and single. She said Harry Winston came into the shop with a folder full of diamonds and laid them out on the counter and this is the one she picked. Now I don't know if that is true or not, but we will see when she digs up the paperwork! Is it even possible that that is a true story?
Originally I was leaning towards a closer to 2 carat old mine or modern cushion cut. Or OEC. I have been hunting for a year for a cool vintage or classic piece at a good value. I have seen a lot of beautiful rings but I haven't felt like committing to any of them. When I was given this ring I wasn't sure if it was "the one" or not but now I think that given the right setting it would satisfy my desire for an upgrade and also be a lovely sentimental piece to wear every day.
I'd like it to be classic and tasteful but also have more bling than my old ring. My old ring is a .65 carat oval with tapered baguettes in platinum, classic, simple.
Can you help me find a setting for my oval? I admit I want it to look bigger.
I like 3 stone rings, I love step cut sides. I like bezel set and prong set centers. I like calibre and I like migraine. Am I all over the place or what?! I need a low profile but I really want it to sparkle and catch light. In the end this ring will be an heirloom and I will give it to my daughter so I want it to be a beautiful, unique AND classic. Is that too tall an order? It doesn't need to be a totally custom ring as I would prefer to just find a setting that fits what I like and not go through all the work of a custom ring.
I will try to upload pics of my ring and also link to some styles I kind of like.
thanks for your time! I have been silently trolling for a year and learned a lot!
