Hi,

I am actually looking for a loose diamond for an engagement ring. I have narrowed down the specs i'm looking for, they are as follows;
0.80 - 0.84 Carat
Ideal Cut
F Color
VS2 Clarity
Excellent Symmetry
Excellent Polish
No Fluorescence
Round Brilliant

I want a diamond that will shine and sparkle, what are your recommendations? I am also kinda confused as to if i should buy from an online retailer vs a local jeweler. It seems that all the local jewelers are saying that online retailers have the last pick at diamonds and they usually end up with the worst of the batch to sell to consumers, hence the price difference, is this true? If anyone has any diamonds in mind with the specs above please do let me know, thanks!

Online has a lot less overhead so will give you lost more bang for your buck.

That is ridiculous.

The one cavait to this is that if you live near NYC you can work with a vendor that has a brick and motar store in person but online prices (IDJewlery, James Allen & GoodoldGold). The same is true for the Houston, TX area (WhiteFlash, Brian Gavin Diamonds)

If anyone has any diamonds in mind with the specs above please do let me know, thanks!

Why are you opposed to fluorescence? Most here see it as a good thing independent of price, but it also has the advantage of lowering the price.

Also have you looked at diamonds in person, you could get either more bang or lower price if you lower your color or clarity requirements
a bit.

And very very importantly, whats your budget?

But knowing your budget would help us help you look.

Wow. That's a new one. LMAO. No, online retailers don't get the last pick in a finite pool of resources. This isn't dodgeball in the school yard. I'm still chuckling.

In fact many of them have exclusive cutting facilities and better cut diamonds than the majority of diamonds out there and they can match the 'worlds most perfectly cut diamonds'...ie Hearts on Fire (which I call Wallets on Fire).

My favorite among those that have diamonds that meet that standard are are Brian Gavin Diamonds and Infinity Diamonds (carried by High Performance Diamonds and Dimend Scassi).

Happy shopping and welcome. :wavey:

thanks for all the comments! my budget is basically from 4500-5000 for this diamond, i saw a few on bluenile for 4760 with the specs im looking for, i have seen diamonds in person and im not opposed to a little bit of fluorescence, i guess it doesnt really affect the shine of the diamond... now i see all these diamonds with the specs im looking for on bluenile, but how do i know which is the best out of the bunch?

I'm new to this community, but it seems blue nile is NOT the way to go around here. Try whiteflash.com instead.

Blue Nile has a large unique inventory. This is a good thing.
Blue Nile does not have access to the cutting edge technology to evaluate the diamonds cut quality. This is a bad thing.

I would recommend contacting IDJewlery, and sending links to the Blue Nile diamonds that you are interested in. They will be able to evaluate them for you, take pictures, and match/beat the blue nile price.

That diamond could be good. The low depth means that it will look bigger than its weight. I think that is a good way to find value.

People hear prefer a table 54-58. That fits more that 60/60 proportions which leads to a brighter but less fiery diamond. You should search pricescope for info about 60/60 cuts.

Again. I would send that link to IdJewlery so they can give you pictures and Idealscope images to evaluate light performance. Without picture and light performance pictures your buying blind, and thats what people don't like about blue nile.

now i see all these diamonds with the specs im looking for on bluenile, but how do i know which is the best out of the bunch?

Have IdJewlery look at them.

Run them through the HCA tool. now i see all these diamonds with the specs im looking for on bluenile, but how do i know which is the best out of the bunch? https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

the HCA tool gave me excellent in all categories and a score of 1.2, also who is IDJewlery? or wat is IDJewlery? and how do i contact?

this one also received good HCA scores, what about this one? it has medium fluorescence

99% of the time fluorescence has no negative effect on the stone. Most here see it as a positive for the stone. Plus it reduces the price. You just need to have someone check it out to make sure it is not negatively affected. Similar to how you have the vendor check if it is eye clean.

That stone looks fine too. Again it has close to the 60/60 proportions which will give a different look.

Here is the link to Idjewlery best price program which will let you call in Blue Nile Stones: http://idjewelryonline.com/best_price.php

The email is: [email protected]

Ask for Yekutiel and say you are from pricescope.

It seems you are only search bluenile. Try search the price-scope database which will search a larger database across multiple vendors.

That diamond looks good. In my experience eternity diamond does not give the idealscope. You can e-mail them and ask, otherwise you can send that link to IdJewelery as well, and they can get it and give you the appropriate images.

Are you located near NYC? You may want to go and look at 60/60 diamonds vs the more traditional angled diamonds in person to see which you prefer. Seems like your on the right track of picking out all excellent choice diamonds!

Also if you want a real cream of the crop diamond cutwise, I would get one from WhiteFlash, Briangavindiamonds, highperformanec diamonds or goodoldgold.

Note: When faced with a similar choice, I decided on a just shy of creme of the crop cut, for lower price/bigger size. I had IDjewlery call in a dimaond that was listed elsewhere.

so this is the diamond i am interested in, anyone have any opinions on this diamond??

I am assuming that is a Whiteflash ACA or Expert selection.

Its lights out.

lights out meaning?

Haha. Guess that is not a good idiom to use when talking about diamond light performance.

It is going to be tippy tippy top of the line in light performance.

great! i think ill go with this diamond then!

Out of curiousity can you give us the stats on that diamond?
