Hi all, I''ve been lurking around these forums over the last few months and have found you all to be a fantastic resource. It''s finally time for me to take the plunge and I would be most grateful if any of you were willing to help me out.
It''s taken four years (2 of them living together), but I''ve finally realized that my girlfriend is the woman I want to be with for the rest of my life. After months of unemployment, my girl just got offered a great job that will go a long way to getting us back to some level of stability. It just seems like the perfect time to propose so we can really start planning for our future together.
I''ve gone around the chain stores in town and looked at rings to get a good sense of what I''m dealing with. When comparing what they have to the online stores I had two revelations, chain stores are quite expensive and their selection quality really isn''t all that good. Of the sites I''ve visited, you guys seem to recommend James Allen a lot and I love looking through their site so I think it''s where I want to go.
So what am I looking for?
A few years ago my girlfriend made some throwaway comment that her engagement ring would need to be "at least a carat". In the real world however, I think we both know that this isn''t possible with our (my) current budget, so I want to get something that - while smaller - will dazzle and delight more than most of the chain store diamonds. Plus, we can always upgrade at a later date.
My budget is $3000 for both ring and diamond, the good news is that I think either of the knife edge rings at JA are just the ticket (my girl takes a liking to minimalist designs). That leaves a big portion of the budget dedicated to the diamond.
I was hoping the diamond would around a .75 carat, near colorless (H, maybe I?) and then whatever cut and clarity best fits the price range. Obviously I can apply the filters in JA without an issue - but when it comes to tables, crowns and all these crazy diagrams I''m a little out of my league. If you think my specs need changing please let me know.
I''m all ears. All help is greatly appreciated.
