Hey everyone. I'm in the process of buying an engagement ring and I'm considering buying this diamond. Knowing nothing about diamonds, I wanted to see if I'm getting a fair price. They're asking $7500 for the diamond. Here's the GIA report. Thanks!

Definitely overpriced. Nielseel gave you great advice.

It gets a 2.4 on the HCA with those numbers (buy only if the price is good). I think you could do better as Nieelseel says. It doesn't mean this ones a bomb (but is a little overpriced), but I think you'd need more info if you're set on it.

I think the preffered depth range to stay in is 61-62 so this one is a little out, and the crown and pavilion angels are both right at the cusp of the 34-35 crown, 40.6-41 pavilion so it seems to be maximizing weight while staying on the outer bounds of ideal specs (but I'm no expert). I think you'd need an unbiased eye (independent gemologist) to review it to know about it's performance (or get an idealscope and check the performance yourself). If that sounds like a lot of work, you might check online for some stones with better specs or see if they can bring in more choices at least.

Thanks for the information. If $7500 is too much to pay, what would be a "fair" price?

5.5? 6?

You can do a search on PS database.

I didnt do a PS search but on James Allen a GIA excellent non Hearts and Arrows stone was between 4500 and 5500

Hi fooz! :wavey: Welcome to PS! Are you shopping locally with a BM? Have you consider shopping online? I'm asking because if you'd like to share your budget and criteria we could help you find something beautiful and at a fair price. Online vendors tend to have better upgrade and return policies as well. They also typically have more information about the diamond, helping to ensure that you're making a great choice. :))
