does a 1ct look any different than a 1.17 once set on a ring?
 
You wouldn't really notice the difference unless you held them next to each other. But the 1.17 would be larger. :-)
 
It is just barely noticable to my eye if you compare side by side.

yes,if both are well cut stones... ;)) 6.47 mm VS 6.84 mm.
