DH is so talented. He draws, carves, paints, sculpts....and I can''t even draw a decent stick person. He made these giraffes per request of my co-worker as a gift for her granddaughter who loves giraffes. She just asked for him to make a giraffe and he created this scene with mom and baby. I think it turned out amazing!

I''d love to see a close-up! It looks good from here!

...another not quite finished....he painted all those spots by hand....you can see the rocks he created in the background that became part of the scenery with the grassy tufts.

Hey Tacori! Thank you! He usually just does this for himself as his hobby. I have often thought he should start a business but he feels that if it becomes his job he won''t enjoy it as much and it really is a great stress reliever for him. It''s time-consuming, too, but I agree he could just work on some things and save them up and just go a few times a year.

He paints models, too, and entered a couple in a contest this year and won first and second place in his category, Sci-Fi, along with Best Paint and Best in Class plaques. I think he should paint the model used for the picture that appears on the box to represent the product. His usually looks better than what is on the front of the box, anyway.

Wow, your husband is SO TALENTED. I am seriously blown away! That is fantastic! My twin sister loves giraffes and I know she would love that sculpture!

Maybe he can just take a few commissions here and there for extra income? That way it''ll remain more like a hobby....

Thank you so much for the responses. He is really creative. For the tree he used a cutting from his Mom''s azalea bush and stripped the leaves off. The grassy tufts are from a neighbors pampas grass plant. It''s a shame none of that talent jumps on me!

Beautiful! What amazing talent.

Wow! Very cool! Lots of talent there.

He should offer his services to those high end cake people for their theme cakes!

My brother says the same thing. He is very artistic, and I've told him for years he could be an illustrator for a card company, but he says that would take the enjoyment away.

Your hubby is ultra talented, that whole thing looks amazing!!!

WOW! It''s amazing! Better than the stuff out there on the market even!

I totally hear him on this, I have always liked to draw, especially fashion illustration and everyone always asks why I didn''t make it a career - and my answer is the same reasoning your husband has.

WOW, that''s brilliant! Your DH has talent in spades!

It might be fun for him to take one or two commissions a year - then he can pick and choose the projects that are the most appealing to him.

Very nicely done!!

far out, dianne! WOW!

(am sitting here making a mental list of all the things i'd be asking him to do for my house if i had a husband with those abilities!)

i can paint and draw a little, but sculpture is HARD! that ability to picture and create 3D is absolutely beyond me, and is much rarer, i think, than some of the other 2 dimensional arts. i think his giraffes are gorgeous!

talented man. :)

That is beautiful, Dianne! Your husband is definitely very talented.

You mentioned that he would feel like his hobby would lose some of its enjoyment and stress-relief for him if he started a business, etc. Someone just recommended a book to me today that I would like to share with you (and your husband): The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. It''s about finding one''s dream in life and why we are many times deterred from that dream by our fears of actually realizing it. If you only read the preface, you''ll get the message. Also, a quote:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won''t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same." ~ Marianne Williamson

Just thought that was oh so appropriate...forgive me for being all spiritual and tedious!

I can't wait to show hubby all these wonderful comments...and possible job opportunities
31.gif
. He doesn't make a big deal out of his talent which just blows my mind. He's like, "Eh, it's ok....I was hoping it would turn out better." Huh?!
23.gif

I tell him all the time how talented he is and that not everyone can do what he does. He did some birds one year and gave away as gifts....they were flat-out amazing!!! Wish I would have had a digital camera back then.

ETA: It's interesting to hear that others also feel they would lose interest if their hobby became their job. I was thinking it would be more opportunities to do what you love...but hubby says he does this when he wants and at the pace he wants...no pressure...and a job would mean deadlines. Plus, it really is his outlet for stress. While I like to go out with the girls sometimes he is perfectly content to stay at home and be creative.

This is amazing! What am impressive talent!

Wow! He is truly gifted!!

Funny you should say that. For the longest time he seemed to only work on the Sci-Fi stuff...fangs, weapons, hideous...I asked him why he couldn''t make something pretty...so he drew me a dozen roses. He also carved me a teddy bear and he made me an owl sitting on a limb. So...I was able to squeeze out a few pretty things from him. He much prefers "not pretty"...LOL

My local public library doesn''t have it, but I looked it up on Barnes & Nobles'' website and there are several versions available. One of which is a downloadable version for a very reasonable price. Just an FYI. I don''t mean to turn your thread into something self-serving at all.

My mother is an amazing quilter, has been president of her local quilt guild, entered and won many competitions, and hosted lessons not only at her home but in public venues. She has used the same "it won''t be as pleasurable anymore" excuse as far as why she doesn''t REALLY go forth and prosper with her talent. Friends, family, strangers agree that she has an extraordinary talent and should have her own gallery. She is 66...I don''t know what is holding her back, but I think sometimes the answer is that she''s afraid there won''t be anything left for her to achieve once she reaches her greatest goal in life. Yanno? Scary, disconcerting thoughts for a very naturally talented person to deal with.
