Hi :)
I have been reading these forums for quite a while now getting heaps of useful information in my quest to help my BF pick the right diamond for me after a while I have finally decided to post :).

I found a diamond from an internet vendor that i''m possibly considering viewing but I am not sure if it is worth it. The diamond in question is certified by IGI (I''m not sure how reputable they are for starters I was told to only look at GIA and HRD by a local wholesaler) it is 1.86 carat F VS1 H&A cut (specs below) they don''t list the depth

any help would be very much appreciated :D the price is the best bit $11200

which from what I have compared elsewhere locally (I am in Australia) is thousands cheaper

CUT: Round H&A
CARAT: 1.86
COLOUR: F
CLARITY: VS1
PRICE: $11200
SYM/POLISH/CUT: EXC EXC EXC
FLOUR:
SLIGHT
MEASUREMENTS: 7.85x7.92x4.89
TABLE: 57
CROWN: 15.5
PAV: 43.0
DEPTH: 0.0 (???? missing info)
GIRDLE: MED
CUTLET: PT
CERT: IGI

Any help would be muchly appreciated :)

My calculations show a 61.7% depth to 62.2% depending on which number is used. I suppose I could average out the number instead which works it out to 62.0%. Anyone else care to double check my math?

The first thing I would do is to verify the colour and clarity grade for accuracy. The cert also gives % when the angle would be more accurate. The HCA score came up as 2.4 where is is just at the outermost border of AGS Ideal candidates. Again, I am using % which isn't as accurate as angles, and I'm basing this on an 62.0% depth (average of the 2 table measurements).

62.0% chrono is correct!

WOW thanks for the replies :)

I did the cut advisor as well but i guessed the depth and was a little hesitant to rely on my own opinion :)

I will have to call the vendor (it is 2:32am here so it will have to wait till morning :P) to view the cert and all just to me the price seems to good to be true for a diamond of that size, cut, colour etc :D

It''s thousands cheaper because of the cert, as an fyi. It still could be very solid, but don''t be surprised if it''s more similar to a GIA H/SI1.

That''s my 2 cents at least :D

Freakazoid I was thinking along the same lines :)

I had a re look at their pricelist and found a diamond that came up even more amazing (slightly lower colour then I was after) i''m arranging for a viewing as they are fairly local but I am stunned at the prices

. I guess I will not know until I see it send it to an appraiser etc but these sound to good to be true

Gia stone sounds like it has potential.
I wouldn''t touch an IGI graded stone with a 10 foot pole when it come too my money.
They do not have a good reputation in the US.

*cry* got a call back from the vendor as with most things that are too good to be true they usually are

even though it is is not listed in their pricelists or on their website the price is PER carat which he only decides to tell me on call back

told them off politely oh well the search continues thanks for the help though :)

Okay, that explains it! There was no way on earth that a 2+ ct. G VS excellent cut stone was going to be that price! I am glad you found out why!
