Locket Assistance

I have acquired an Antique ( I believe ) 9ct Rose Gold Locket, Celtic design, square in shape, however it’s not for Pictures and I’m confused as to what it might be for.

I have a feeling it’s for a pill or perfume wax however it may be for something else.

Apologies if I’ve posted in the wrong place but hoping someone may be able to shed some light.

Circular depression measures approx 1.2cm across so rules out most coins I believe.

I believe this is a fob locket.
I'm sure it is for photos, the glass insert is likely missing . It is beautiful.
