Locked out of FB

Can anyone advise how to fix this? I was changing my personal details on FB and erred with my birth year. I was really just trying to remove personal info even tho I have the account private. FB locked me out and won't let me access until I provide approved ID (passport or DL or and addressed letter). Not wanting to put in the first 2, I provided an addressed letter and it won't accept it. I'm not a huge social media aficionado but I do use it for a (work) union private group. Can anyone advise or have experience with this? If I make a new account won't it reject bc of my IP? I use my smartphone for all things FB.

I have not had this happen but I would definitely not under any circumstances give in and give them your DL or passport number. I think your instincts on that were correct. Regarding the letter, maybe they want something official like a utility bill? If you were to provide that, I would black out the account number. Maybe try again with a different letter, a bill of some sort with the account number blacked out?

I really hate facebook but need to use it sometimes to access certain info. So I feel your pain! When I got divorced I had to jump through hoops to change my last name on facebook when I went back to my maiden name.

Right?? Its useful for communication in the groups and on messenger. I did try some bills and my pay stubs with things cropped but it isn't accepting that. This is all done by email automatically so I just get a stock email that says nope, not acceptable. Gah!

I suspect they'll keep me locked out unless I provide the DL. I'm not hopeful blocking out info on the DL will do it, been there before and that tactic was rejected in other situations.

I have an Oculus (free when I bought my phone) but yeah won't use it because of this.

No help here but I just find this insane for them to require this type of information. It’s social media for crying out loud!

I do not regret leaving FB years ago, should have done it sooner although it can be awkward because “everyone” is on there and they will assume you know things they have posted.

Not sure if I can. I'd have to edit a pic of my DL as the FB page you use takes the photo and uploads it. Not sure if I'm explaining that correctly...I coukd be wrong, I'm so untechy.

So take a photo of an edited photo...maybe doable if I get my sons to edit it somehow...

I'll give it ago tomorrow. I hear they can lock you out for 4 days and then give you a chance. Other places I'm reading say they can lock you out indefinitely. I'm not hopeful as that approach (covering data) has never worked in the past when we tried it for other online stuff. Will let everyone know tho.
