Hello all, I''m a new member that is currently looking to purchase a Princess center stone. I''ve been lurking for some time in this and another similar forum. I''ve read numerous posts regarding B-scope, Image scope, the evolution of diamond cutting and strain among many others (this I''d like a little more info on..... strain that is). After researching and speaking with many in the diamond field and searching for center stones with my current girlfriend I''ve come to the realization that regardless of the current information available there really are no absolutes (lucky me.....took this long). Stated simply, some stones just simply appear to have life while others look like flat pieces of glass.

So my question becomes one that is very simple and highly subjective, who or what brand actually offers the most attractive (fiery, brilliant, etc) Princess Cut diamonds on average, and why???

The answer to the question you pose can only be answered by you, and what appeals to your eye...basically, the light performance of a diamond is related to its cut.

I fully understand that, what I''m asking is for those that may have seen or have in some instances appraised diamonds. Since cut is the key factor then easily adjust the question to, on average who or what "brand" cuts the best diamonds and why???

Maybe this is too difficult a question??? I''m not looking for fortune cookie answers.

Well, I have to give you a generic answer as a vendor...sorry, but I can''t violate the forum rules.

understood!!! In another post there is a princess by Infinity. How does this cut differ from that of others. Many have raved, including myself. Although, some scopes I''ve seen have light leakage at only the corner areas, the Infinity has it through out the stone??? Puzzling

I was in the same situation as you, looking for a princess cut diamond that performed well. To find these diamonds, you must find dealers who give detailed information and analysis about individual diamonds to at least get a comfort level that you are looking at a diamond that performs well. A few that come to mind are:

www.goodoldgold.com (one of the best, read the entire site!!)
www.exceldiamonds.com
www.niceice.com (not many fancy shapes in inventory at this time)
www.whiteflash.com (check their Expert Selection)
www.dbof.com

Check those sites out for detailed information on the diamonds.

By the way, I ended up going with a Jubilee cut diamond from Good Old Gold. It''s being delivered tomorrow and I''ll be posting pictures in the Show Me The Ring forum.

Hi Chief,

Part of the reason for our stones showing more leakage is due to sloppy photography. We are working on that, and I hope that we can improve this soon.

Another reason is that again, some rules for rounds do not apply to princess-cuts.

Apart from light return, the presence of a pleasing, well-distributed contrast-pattern is also very important. It is this pattern, which is at the basis of scintillation. In rounds, the majority of the contrast-pattern comes from light obstruction (the 8 black arrows) and a small part of the contrast-pattern comes from small triangles of light leakage around the girdle area.

In a princess-cut however, there is a lot less head-obstruction, and a big part of the contrast-pattern comes from light leakage.

In a recent thread, that I cannot retrieve, Garry Holloway has showed an Idealscope-setup with an Ideal-light in which the light entering through the pavilion is blocked. Maybe, that is the future way of using the Idealscope on fancy shapes.

I hope that this was somewhat clear.

Live long,
