So sad...

I was thinking last night about the Presley family. His mother had hepatitis but died in her forties from a heart attack. Apparently at some point she took diet pills and drank. Elvis died at 42 - again heart but plagued with drug abuse. Now Lisa at 54 from a heart attack although she had drug issues too in the past. Can’t help but think there must be some genetic link to the heart issues and maybe the drug issues as well. Seems they were all doomed to die early of heart attacks. So sad - I wonder if Lisa had any inkling of the heart issue? She was on tv on Tuesday and she looked so pale. Perhaps it was just her makeup but her color did not look good.
I too am so sorry for Priscilla and Lisa’s three daughters. Such a difficult loss for all of them.

There was an article in one of the papers today saying it could be genetic, as Elvis’s grandparents (I think on the maternal side) were 1st cousins, and there were several other family members who died at an early age from heart problems.

Lisa Marie was also grieving the loss of her son by suicide. Its only been two years since he died. I have to wonder if the heartbreak and stress of losing her son also played a part. All of it is so sad. Her poor family now suffers another loss.

It's so sad.
I'm sure she was under extreme pressure her whole life, living under the shadow of her father.

HI:

I was as shocked as I was saddened by this news. I can't imagine her life was in any way, easy. And losing her son; unimaginable grief. RIP.

Sharon

Interesting - it would seem that the problem would have been on the maternal side.

Certainly her grief over losing her son would have been unimaginable and surely could have contributed.

Bingo. I read they all had ( among other genetic issues) alpha one anti trypsin deficiency. Same genetic issue I have actually MZ
It can affect lungs, liver, heart etc

Wow - that is incredible Missy! Is there treatment for it or do they keep an eye on various organ functions for you?

No treatment for liver (yet hopefully one day) but liver and lung transplant if needed. And for lungs there is an infusion but it literally costs many thousands per month (8k I think ) so unless insurance pays (and they refuse for the MZ genotype) we’re out of luck. They are working on treatments but it’s a rare genetic disorder so you know how that goes. I think it’s referred to as an orphan disease. It’s not exactly a disease but those who have it are way more vulnerable to having lung and liver and heart issues among other things. I persorally have elevated liver enzymes and EPI. All due to alpha one anti trypsin deficiency. I am being monitored by a pulmonologist, hepatologist, gastroenterologist and have to see a cardiologist. But I’m taking a break from doctors lol. One day at a time. But it’s truly tragic what happened with the Presley family :(

My grandmother died from this. We didn’t know it at the time as 1992 much was unknown. And still is really. But looking back this is why she died young. Her lungs were affected and it was misdIagnosed as “just” asthma :(

Well, I certainly wish you all the best. I know you will be diligent in your health care. None of us really knows what lurks inside our bodies I guess so maybe you have a leg up knowing to keep a close eye on things. All we can do is live life to the fullest one day at a time!

I agree 100% @MissGotRocks and thank you.
Wishing you and your loved ones all the best too

❤️

I was telling my husband she looked bad at the Golden Globes. I read somehwere that one of the entertainment news programs showed a slip of someone helping her walk and her saying don't let go of me.
She looked drugged to me.
