Has anyone watched the Netflix series "Lilyhammer"? When I was watching (and re-watching) the music video of Steven Van Zandt singing "I Am A Patriot" I also watched some clips of him as Silvio Dante in "The Sopranos" and discovered the Norwegian-American television series "Lilyhammer" (of which I had never heard) which is still (I think) available on Netflix. Some people rave about it. Has anyone here seen it?

Deb/AGBF

I watched it all.
IMO an excellent production!

I really enjoyed the extreme contrast of cultures.

Thanks, kenny!

Deb, thanks for posting this. I’ll put it on my “neckflicks” (as my daughter pronounces it) list.
Last night I finished Dallas Buyers Club, and I was rocked to the bone. Sometimes I find myself saving up energy to watch these wonderful, emotional, thought-provoking works.

Actually Deb, after this thread I just started to re-watch a few episodes and while I loved the series and still do, come to think of it actually ... after reading years of your posts, I don't think you'd like it because it's not PC enough for you.

You'll get all offended by the (fully intentional, and over the top) misogyny of the lead character and that from other characters.
I've noticed you have zeeeeroooo sense of humor for anything even remotely related to that type of humor.

I recommend you don't watch it, or let your daughter watch is.

WTF?

Monnie, over the years there have been many times Deb has pointed out and been offended by misogyny that, for the life of me this feminist just could not find.
Some of her posts have left me scratching my head and thinking (as you just wrote) WTF?
By recommending the show I don't want Deb (or others here) to think I endorse everything said by the show's characters, or everything that happens in the show.
It won't hold up under the microscope of someone who has demonstrated (s)he is jonesing to be offended by the degrading way some men act towards women just to get sex from - and Lillyhammer has plenty of that.

Just trying to save Deb from getting all bent out of shape.
I think most others here would look beyond that and enjoy Lillyhammer.

When I initially recommended it I was just considering how excellent the show itself was, not the particulars of the person asking the question.
My bad.
Sorry, Deb; if I could turn back time I would not have respond to this thread.
If you watch it I'm interested in your impression of it.
It doesn't matter to me whether you validate or refute what I've written here.

It’s cool.
Honestly I’m just sitting here licking sauce off my smartphone after I dropped while eating and PS-ing. But thank you for taking the time to explain stuff.

:wavey:—zero aggressive friendly wave to allllllll!!!

Edited: now I think I sound callous and I do not feel that way. I think I’ve basically bitten off more n I can chew. Thanks. Exiting the building.

Thank you for your honesty, kenny. I do not perceive myself the way you perceive me, but I respect the way you perceive me.

In my own estimation, I am not humorless, but, in fact, have a very well developed sense of humor. In my opinion, a movie or a book captures someone's artistic take on the world. As I read the book or watch the movie, I let he director or author guide me through the experience. Whether it is Jane Austen guiding me or Mario Puzo, I allow myself to go along with the flow and enter the author's world. The times (in the sense of Austen) or the setting (in the case of Puzo) may not be comfortable to me, but one has to suspend belief to enjoy fiction/theater. I do not like real women to be degraded, but I also do not like real people to be murdered. Nonetheless, I read many murder mysteries and watch gangster movies. My favorite movie is "The Godfather". Go figure. ;))

Deb, I do not perceive you as humorless.
Not at all.
But, thanks for all the clarification.

I've notice you see and point out misogyny very often.
Clearly it pushes your button (as it should in all of us) ... and Lillyhammer is chock full of misogyny.
That's all.
