here....not bad?

Did you see the Union lighting link...that one is like $118....would match over a pool table...

Anyhoo..hope I helped a little...when you see it....you'll know!

I like the first foyer picture you posted, Tacori.

It took me and Paul almost 3 months to finally agree on a light fixture for the dining room, and would you believe it''s something we just happened upon at a YARD SALE? Too funny. We''d been to at least 6 stores and who knows how many websites we''d hit on.

Good luck finding something you both like that''s not mondo expensive. When did lighting become a three digit thing, anyway?

I don''t have any suggestions because I can''t figure out lighting over our bar, but those lights you posted are fabulous! I can''t wait to see what you end up with!!!

That is cool...would I need to do clear glass for the other''s then? Wish I could design my own!

No...absolutely wold not need to match and be clear glass....I'd just try to match the shape and nickel finish...

Or, you could get clear glass and it would tie in in that regard!

The unionlighting one is here....See how they just kind of have the same feel?

let us know what u decide!! i bet it will look great!

Thanks fisher and skippy! Lighting is a huge commitment!

MMM, I do like the shape of the shades....

Great..now I want the small version for my foyer. thanks a lot LOL :)

Haha!

I''ll have to see what DH says....I like how it is one level. Multi levels can look visually cluttered sometimes.

may the schwartz be with you! good luck! I like the single level too bc it''s a cleaner look when looking up.

MMM, he likes it! I guess he prefers the clear shades after all. Still not 100% sure. We are going to see if we can see it locally before we commit. I swear this is harder than choosing to marry my DH!

I''ll keep you all updated.

LOL...I''m glad!

BUT, it just dawned on me to mention something that might burst that bubble......I have an old fashioned glass bell jar pendant and it has a clear bottom...it''s in the foyer....well, we all know bugs like light and always end up in closed lights....so basically I have to vacuum dead bugs out of it every few weeks bc the dead bugs show...not talking big bugs, but bugs...they''d be there no matter what kind of open design light I''d put there...but they show...

So my point is-
I would look and see how the light is constructed- is bottom of the shade clear or does it have some metal at the base...

I wasn''t going to say anything but figured I better...

MMM, oh good point! Hmmmm...maybe the bottom is covered in metal somehow. Must look at it again...

I just zoomed it....the bottom is metal so you''re fine...my issue is that the bell jar has that little glass nubbin at the bottom and all the tiny buggies that fly in end up there LOL...gross :)

Have you gone to the Lee Lighting place by the mall? They don''t have a lot of contemporary stuff but I bet they have manufacturer books...I don''t think they charge shipping....there is a really nice girl there...and I can''t remember her name haha...

Oh, I can see how things can get stuck in between the clear part and the opaque. Hmmm...I'll guess I'll have to see what it is like IRL but there is NO WAY I am vacuuming bugs out of that thing!

ETA: oh good you think it is okay. Yeah, we went to Lee and they had NOTHING modern. I did a dealer search and there are like 6 places within 15 miles. Ever been to UNIQUE SHOWPLACE on South Blvd?

Maybe I should call all 6 and see if any of them have it on display...no sense in dragging the baby there for nothing.

yes, definitely call...
hmmm....i guess they could still get into that space between the clear and the opaque....of course the 3 grand one didn''t have this problem LOL....
If someone has it, I''d go see it... you might not like it in person...

Also, have you thought about doing something totally crazy in the foyer...like those crazy lights with all sorts of wires coming out from all over the pace with those little lights on the end....? Do you know what I mean?

Of course...an extra 2K will ensure no bugs
3.gif
Heck, that''s totally worth it

DH probably would love the little wire lights thing. The problem is we live in a traditional house (we just pretend it is modern). SO I don''t want it to clash TOO much. I seriously have dreams of changing EVERYTHING, doors, hardware, banisters, fireplace, etc...doubt it will all happen but at least the major stuff will. *sigh* a girl can dream can''t she?!?

That is cool hera! How sweet of you to think of my thread. The glass part would tie in the foyer light (if that is the one we go with).

ETA: too bad it isn't matte/satin

oh that's is a very nice one hera! I like it a lot!

as for you Ms. Tacori, what's you're issue with Chrome? It's going to sound nutty, but I mixed metals...I have a large drum shade with a chrome bar in the dining room, a traditional bell jar in nickel in the foyer (which, to tell the truth, you don't see when you walk in)...and straighy ahead I have a very clean line bronze fixture with 4 small drum shades....in the kitchen I also have that nickel ceiling fan....it works bc they all have the same shape (except for the foyer which again, isn't in plain view but oddly seems to match)...upstairs, I did (ok, this is going to sound very lame but I admit it's true I have bronze hardware bc Jeff Lewis has bronze hardware LOLOLOL...what a loser!....And I'm going to switch out my bronze fixtures to a nickel fixture that has a choc brown drum shade which picks up on the bronze...

My point is- they don't all have to match! I happen to love Chrome!... if you see a fixture that's Chrome- I say go for it, especially in a foyer...maybe not over the pool table or kitchen bc it's a little more formal imo...

and it''s so funny- I was looking around yesterday and I was like, how the heck did I end up looking so traditional? I guess I can''t hide from the style of a traditional house, which it very much is....so I understand what you mean...you can''t go all out nuts-o, bc it just won''t work...

MMM, I don''t know. I guess I don''t like it b/c it is shiny I guess. I know DH will nix it for sure! I agree that you can mix metals and have it look great. Jeff is one of my design idols for sure. I love his back splash!
30.gif
His staircase is also a dream (the horizontal steel) I love everything about his homes!

Yeah, no joke! If you go to HGTV you can take a virtual tour of some of the rooms of his old home....

It''s funny bc I''m obsessed with chrome right now...I just painted an ugly oak vanity this awesome black-brown and am putting these round clear and chrome knobs on them...got chrome faucets, etc...again, obessed with chrome...I''m sure I''ll be obsessed with nickle next week and bronze after that LOL

MMM, I also have an aversion to white ceilings. I HATE them!

GASP!

Next you''re going to tell me you hate crown molding LOL...I kid. Actually, not having crown molding is so much more modern...we have it downstairs and not upstairs and I like it that way....goes nicely with my white ceilings hahaha...I can''t imagine what it would look like with low 8+? foot ceilings not white...but then again, my wall colors are super pale...so I guess dark colors with tinted ceilings would actually help to make the ceiling look taller....

The strange thing is I *do* like crown molding (even though it is traditional). Maybe b/c DH is a molding FREAK. He will put it in if it is not there and loves extra trim, huge baseboards, etc...I think that might be why I dislike white ceilings. We paint all of ours a few shades lighter than the wall color so they aren''t dark by any means but really make the crown POP. Otherwise I think crown tends to get lost. I don''t know how tall my ceilings are but I think colored ones look great. What are you doing with your staircase? Brave or taking it safe?!?
