My fiance and I found a beautiful engagement ring at a local (private) jeweler today, and we''re wondering if it is priced correctly, given the W-X (light yellow) color of the diamond- it''s priced at $20K-
3.5 CT round
Ideal cut
W-X color
VS1
Your comments and help are appreciated.
I don''t think it looks overly cheap, due to the color. It is not yellow enuf to be fancy, not white enuf to be white. I have seen stones like this and they are much, much cheaper than stones that fall into the catagories.
The question is - do you like the stone? You cannot easily get something so big for reasonable cost if you go fancy or colorless, so this stone is sort of a compromise. Some of these type stones are really, really pretty.
They are a personal choice. The market for them is more limited, but if you love it, I would not be too afraid of the price. Hopefully your jeweler would let you take it for an independent appraisal to make sure everything is as it should be. That would definitely do that if I were you.
Plus check it in different lights. In some situations it might look *a lot* different, especially outside.
I don''t think this is very comparable to what he is looking at. Hearts are always cheaper than rounds and there is a world between vs1 and si2. Plus carat weight in this case.
Sounds like he has a better deal with the stone he is reviewing.

Beacon- thanks a lot for the postive comments. We did take it outside yesterday and it looks quite brilliant (my fiance really loves it)
(Compromise) is indeed a good way to describe it- there are other positive features about the cut that were explained to me, but I do not have the exact specs here now. I think I will have them sent to my office tomorrow, then post them for you and others to review. A colorless or fancy stone of this size, cut and clarity would be three times as much (or more.........
Thanks again for your reply.
