My apologies for the lack of photos.
I understand that a diamond isn't meant to glow in the dark and lighting conditions play into how much light play there is within the stone. That being said, while I love my stone, I am concerned as to whether or not it is so deep that I'm leaking too much light and that's what is causing it to look...lifeless at times (too often really). OR perhaps my limited exposure to cushions is causing me to misunderstand a perfectly normal stone. Going by specs alone it's a pretty but very average stone. But I'd like some more experienced opinions to enlighten me on what could be going on.
One of our GIA reports:
Shape & Cut: Cushion Brilliant
Measurements: 6.81x 6.07 x 4.21
Weight: 1.50
Depth: 69.4%
Table: 72%
Girdle: Thin-medium, faceted
Culet: None
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Fluorescence: None
Color Grade: Light Fancy Yellow (though another GIA Gemologist rated it as an S-T and we bought it with an EGL that also rated it as S-T)
Clarity Grade: VS2
In overcast weather it's very pretty and I love how clouds bring out the color. And of course it looks amazing in jewelry store lighting. In my office the fire will come out. But other than a small handful of lighting situations it's very lifeless. Not a lot of brilliance or fire. In a dark shadow it goes black. (I understand it won't glow in the dark but I have seen videos of stones still picking up surrounding light and reflecting that). The beauty of it comes from the the icy eternity inside of it. But I'll admit it, sometimes a girl likes a little sparkle.
So my question is: is this expected from crushed ice cushions in general or am I suffering from a deep cut diamond?
