i just purchased a setting with twenty 1.5 point melee stones running around half the band (which is only two millimeters, so a thin band). when i opened it,they looked so lifeless and dull. i was so disappointed. but later when i was looking at it in the kitchen they were like little firecrackers! (halogen lamps in the kitchen) is this just a normal characteristic of super small melee diamonds?

i have no idea if its the lighting or not but maybe the ring could use a good cleaning?

Hi bdubz,
I also have melee diamonds around my e-ring as well as my wedding band. In some lighting, they seem to look a little bit more dull (they are brilliant cut, g-h color and SI1/2 clarity) In sunlight and under flourescent or indirect light they absolutely sing. Under incandescent light or dim light that''s not overhead, they don;t sparkle as much. I think this is somewhat normal, as any diamond will look different in different lighting. They are so tiny that you just might not notice the sparkle as much.

Hmmm, good question. I have under 2 pointers in my setting, WF ACA melee, and they really do shimmer nicely. In sunlight or halogen lights, they are very firey and colorful. Othertimes, just more shimmery and silvery-white.

Unless they are dirty, though, they never look *dead*.

Try cleaning the ring really good... remember, DDDS! (Dirty diamonds don''t sparkle!)

Where did you get the ring from? Can you post pictures?

very small full cut melee no matter how well cut will look a lot better in direct lighting due to the very tiny virtual facets than in dim or indirect lighting.

my melee look best in the sunlight, and in places with lots of pin lights (Home Depot, hotel foyer, etc.)
