I'm feeling kind of under the weather, and craving soup.....What kind is your favorite?

I have to say Corn chowder.
Actually any chowder...thick, comforting, with potatoes.

I love soup as well: so comforting and so nourishing. The right soups are also very healthy (not all, though).

I just made a large pot of pumpkin, carrot and potato soup yesterday, with plenty of onion and garlic and a touch of curry powder and peppers. Very thick and hearty. Before that, I had some black bean soup.

My favorite depends on my mood.

Roasted butternut squash soup (nice and creamy -- no dairy -- and hearty + healthy)
Greek lemon & chicken soup (light but healthy, sometimes I'll add chunks of carrot)
chicken noodle (I make a thick chicken stock (onion, garlic, carrots, celery) and add some garlic & sliced carrots and serve in a bowl over fresh pasta)

Chicken and wild rice at Panera. :lickout:

I've had a lot of good soups but my all time favorite is a Cream of Asparagus at this little restaurant in Michigan. It's sooooooo buttery and delicious and definitely not good for you but I love it.

My Aunt makes a homemade chicken noodle soup that is excellent. JD makes bean and ham w/potatoes. I make a chili that is soupy rather than thick and stewey. I love potato soup. I would say it's my favorite. The hospital makes a cheeseburger chowder that is really good. Ha, when I went in to have Trapper, I'd ordered tomato soup, which is not something I like plain-I like it in things, but not for just soup to eat. It was SO good I licked the bowl. Seriously. JD looked at me like I was a weirdo but whatever.

I have become a big soup eater over the past year. I have had a lot of trouble with feeling cold, even when it is hot outside, and have also had problems with some meats over the past year. Soups give me the nutrients I need. Here are my favorites:

Black bean
Lentil and Black eyed Pea
Corn Chowder
Clam Chowder
Potato soup
Italian Wedding Soup
Chicken Noodle (with a grilled cheese)
Broccoli Cheddar
Chili
and recently I have fallen in love with Lobster bisque. I would probably like any type of seafood bisque.

I am waiting for fall to play with pumpkin some.

I love soup! One of my favorites is from a local restaurant that only carries/serves organic and local ingredients. They have the most amazing chilled strawberry and ginger soup. It's thick, creamy, and delicious.

I also love chowders and stews. I love thicker soups the most. I really like chicken noodle, but I can't stand mushy noodles, so if I make it, I only add enough noodles for a serving or two at a time.

ETA: Reading everyone's favorites reminded me of a few others I love: bisques and butternut squash and pumpkin soups. mmmmm. :lickout:

I have a batch of chili soup simmering in my slow cooker right now.
I make it with ground meat, onion, celery, bell pepper, carrot, tomatoes
spices and as many varieties of beans as I can find; kidney, pinto, red,
navy, black, garbanzo, black eyed peas etc,

Lobster bisque all the way...it has to be nice and creamy too....delicious.

OH! And my all time favorite is Miso soup...I could eat that all day everyday for the rest of my life.

My mother makes 3 amazing soups: chicken soup, a really yummy veggie soup and an AWESOME broccoli cheese soup that she serves in home-made bread bowls. She rocks.

Now you guys, this just sucks. We have plans for tacos for dinner and all I want is some warm potato or broccoli/cheddar soup. ;(

Seafood stew. Simple tomato basil base, mussels steamed with wine and garlic, any kind of white fish, scallops, crab meat, lobster. Top with shaved Parmesan cheese. It's probably the best comfort food ever in the world.

I LOVE clam chowder and lobster bisque.

But any chowder will do when I'm feeling sick, as well as chicken noodle. And I love miso soup as well (especially spicy miso soup, though not when I'm sick!)

My SIL was a chef, worked for Todd English. She makes the best lobster bisque!!!

Corn chowder

Chicken noodle

Manhatten clam chowder as well as NE.

Now I am craving some soup!!!

I left for lunch, and instead of heading to Mimi's Cafe for Corn Chowder, I got lost, and ended up at a Marie Callendar's where I had Turkey Veggie and Rice Soup and 1/2 a sandwich. The soup was really tasty with a litte kick to it (almost like gumbo) and really hit the spot.

But all these posts since I got back have me thinking about making some homemade chicken and wild rice soup for my family!

shark fin soup and bird's nest soup. :lickout:

Good Old Campbell's Cream of Tomato Soup with Pastina works every time.

I don't care for brothy soups. My favorites include black bean, tortilla, clam chowder, chili, and posole. Ooh and I make an easy, healthy curry carrot soup quite often.

beef pho
chicken noodle
turkey noodle
beef noodle
italian wedding
lentil

Oh do I love soup!

My favorites are thick, creamy soups like potato leek, baked potato, or a broccoli soup. DH makes an awesome soup with only broccoli and water, it's a Gordon Ramsay recipe. He seasons it with salt and pepper, too, I believe.

We had an amazing seafood chowder in Ireland, and of course I would never turn down a steaming bowl of lobster bisque. Mmmmm. Those aren't technically soups though, huh?

When I'm feeling icky, the only thing I want is a bowl of Campbell's Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup. I know Campbell's is gross, but that's all I want when I'm not feeling well.

I served the Cook's Illustrated black bean soup at a party once and people were ready to lick the pot, they loved it so much. You should try it, it's amazing.

chicken and rice=UMMMMMM!creamy tomato with grilled cheese!

We had potato soup last night topped with chives, bacon crumbles and cheese :lickout:

Yummmmm soup. I love soup!

I love tomato basil, white and red chili (or is that a stew?), lobster and/or crab bisque (preferably homemade so I can make it healthy). I also love corn chowder if it has a kick to it.

I make a lot of soup at home during the winter. I dont think there's anything better than a nice bowl of soup on a cold, dreary day.

tomato soup and clam chowder

For some reason the staple 'chicken soup for illnesses' makes me nauseous.. I just don't do well with chicken in general.

Not meaning to thread jack but I will be doing the Soup Diet next week to try to jump start my weight loss.
Has anyone tried it?

Mmmmm, I love soup (though I don't want to eat it when it's 98 degrees outside, lol!).

One of my favorites is Tuscan Pumpkin...it's pieces of leftover turkey or chicken, cannellini beans, pureed pumpkin, onion, garlic, chicken stock and fresh parmasan cheese. It's delicious and so comforting on a cold day.

When I am under the weather, nothing beats hot chicken soup with lots and lots of noodles and turmeric. (The turmeric really cures a cold!)

During the winter I am a real soup person, hearty vegetable, crabby mushroom soup, NE clam chowder, and won ton soup (I just love noodles!!) are my favs.

I love a good potato leek.

Good chicken Broth (Trader Joes has some of the best, IMO)
Leeks cleaned and chopped
Butter
Yukon Gold potatoes cubed
Salt
Pepper

Soften leeks in butter, salt them. Add potatoes and lid. Add broth. Cook till potatoes are done. Get hand blender, whip it all up until smooth. Add pepper. Enjoy. You can add a little cream at the end for richness if you want. Not necessary with good potatoes.

I love this one as it tastes fabulous and takes 30 minutes to make start to finish.
