I recently had a conversation with another gemologist regarding color grading of heavily included diamonds and I'm curious as to what others think. Lets say the diamond weighs approximately 2 ct. and there are so many black inclusions that the stone appears grayed out when viewed on an angle, yet when face-up you can see the stone looks whiter. Do you grade the overall appearance or isolate what little white areas there might be?

Overall appearance. You have to look at the amount of saturation with grey stones against the comparison stones.

Someone posted a really pretty grey RB ring a while back. It seemed to be pretty clean but for the color...it was really kinda pretty in the picture.

Normally when buying a diamond the store will give you a certified diamond document. The certificate is proof that the diamond is real. Also, it is important to learn about color, cut, clarity and carat when shopping for a diamond. Those are major criteria that define the authenticity and value of the diamond.

The black inclusion present on your gem cannot be removed easily so it’s better to exchange that jewel from the shop you purchased.

Choose the best store to buy a real diamond, take help of your local jeweler. If you are not getting proper referrals than conduct a search on Google or you can try a reputable store like thediamond website.
