So I''m about to pick up the ring next week and I called for Chubb. What a pain, some have a $50K minimum before they would do it, some won''t do it alone without another chubb policy. Finally found a nice agent that agreed to do it and without hassles.

I wanted either Chubb or Jewelers Mutal. I read through all the old posts so I decided on Chubb if it was reasonable because of the cash value policy.

Well, for chubb you can insure it for the purchase price or the aprraised price. For JW you must insure it for the apprasied price.

My purchase price is $12K, my appraised price I don''t know it yet since I haven''t picked it up but I suspect say $14K or 15K.

For Los Angeles, Chubbs is $353 for 12K. About 3% of value.

JW is $280 for $14K and $300 for $15K.

Any disadvantages to insuring it for the purchase price instead of appraised price? Realistically I could probably buy an identical ring for close to the same price if something happens in the next 3 years or so.

Any LA people get better or worse rates?

Thanks
