So, you''ve bought a diamond. . .
now what?
Spent all this time memorizing girdle percentages, crown angles, HCA scores, sold your kidney to afford the rock, and now, exasperated, you have your prize in hand!

Likely, you''ve done what I''ve done.
Placed it all over the house.
Maybe taken it for a walk with you.
Put it away, only to dig it back out five minutes later and look at it again.

It''s beginning to become an obsession. . .

It''s beginning to posess you. . .

It''s beginning to become . . . . your "precious". (blatant Lord of the Rings reference there for those not realizing it).

It''s time to get this thing out of your hands before you end up curled up in a corner with a flashlight, watching flecks of colour bounce off of it, while your neighbours start sending out search parties for you.

It''s time to put it into a setting.

SO, I"m about to do that.
I know my girlfriend. . . at least she lets me think I do,
and I''ve been hunting around and imagining the type of characteristics I''d like in a setting.
I stubled across one a while ago that just caught my eye, and felt like it fit the bill perfectly.
Classic to a point, elegant as well, not too over the top, but with an extra bit of flash to make it stand out.

I fell for a Vatche Royal crown with pave setting.

Diamond bought,
date to propose creeping up.
I need to make a decision.
Since This place has served as such a great sounding board, I thought I''d throw this idea out just to see if anyone had any praise or reservations about this setting.

Let me know what you think.

Let me know if you know of something else that you love which might fit the bill.

. . . and if you actually happen to have this setting, definitely let me know what you think of it. . . I haven''t found any live pics of it anywhere (although I"ve seen the royal crown in person, just not with the Pave).

Thanks in advance!

Yummy yummy!

Personally I''m more of a fan of channel setting than pave. Which I''ll just point out is an option.

But I think a lot of women prefer pave.

Good Luck!

That is gorgeous! I agree, you can''t go wrong with that one!

I think Vatche makes lovely settings. I like the one Indie posted better, though. I think it is more timeless.

I think the pave royal crown one you posted is killer! Love it.

Getting her involved is a tough situation.
I''ve seen many different threads discussing how involved, or not involved, the person you''re buying for has been.
For this project, she''s completely uninvolved and it''s an absolute surprise.
We''ve both know this was coming, but didn''t expect it for at least another two year (long story, but she lives overseas, and I make close to sweatshop wages. . . but got a raise she doesn''t know about. hence the purchase of a ring).

So, I based my choice on the jewelry I''ve seen her wear and the style she seems to follow.

It''s a dangerous thing for some, but I feel like I know her well and that she''d love a setting along this line.

I do like the channel set option that was thrown up.
There''s something about the pave I like those. I think it''s partially because the pave adds an extra diamond sparkle to the crown of the ring, but seems more diffuse and doesn''t draw your attention to individual side diamonds and away from the solitaire.

That was what my thoght process was at least.

what are you thinking in the wedding band way?

that was something I thought I"d leave up to her.
I figured that the ring was from me, a personalized gift, but the band would be guided by her.

I like the pave one for the reasons you describe (doesn''t distract) but it might be an issue with a band... they don''t typically recommend that you put a band up against the pave and that pave kinda spills to the sides a bit (at least from what I can see) where as the channel set won''t... just a thought!

vatche normally makes a matching wedding band for their rings. Some of them are slightly curved to accomodate the head of the ring. I think the pave on the ring would be fine with a band next to it. it does slightly curve but not like full side rubbing full side.

i''m not a big fan of channel set stones so I''d vote to go with the pave or better yet, the plain royal crown setting. then she can match up whatever style wedding band she wants and wouldn''t have to worry about it matching the sidestones on the e-ring.

I love both the RC w/pave and the plain RC, which is what I would have gotten, but I''m a 4 prong girl and that comes in 6. It''s a BEAUTIFUL setting, either way!

I think old cap''n polyester needs diamonds in his band as well!

I think that setting is simply stunning and if it comes with a matching wedding band even better!!!

Whew!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!

I mainly just wanted to make sure there weren''t any big "red flags" about the setting or the company before I comitted into the purchase.

I do worry a bit about the pave diamonds on the side and how it might affect a wedding band.

I guess, if it''s a huge issue, we just will have to forgo getting married.

I mean, seriously, I can''t possibly compromise the integrity of a ring I''ve spent so much time on!

She''ll understand.

I think you''ll be safe if you order the matching wedding band.

oooh i LOVE the royal crown in general and that pave one is divine looking! i''m not really a channel set fan, i don''t know why but they so remind me of the 80''s..even in white metals. even though my toe rings are channel set. i think super small channel set where you just see the sparkles is okay. but i''m probably more of a pave fan for things like rings. anyway...both are really nice options...and getting the matching band sounds fab too!

That sounds like my taste in an e-ring! And I think the one you picked fits the bill. I also love the Royal Crown, and I've never seen it with pave before but it does look lovely in the picture. I'm with Mara, that sometimes the channel settings look sort of dated - a little - and I too prefer the pave. If you wanted a very clean look, channel might be better, but pave adds a subtle sparkle, without it being, as you say, "too over the top."

As for the wedding band, I would definitely make sure there is at least some option out there for one that works, because although you say, "that was something I thought I"d leave up to her. I figured that the ring was from me, a personalized gift, but the band would be guided by her.", the fact is, the e-ring you pick will limit her options for wedding ring very much. But I would think, as someone said, that Vatche would have a mate for this ring. With a matching pave band, the center diamond will still be the star of the show.

Anyway, I do think that is a beautiful setting!

I love it. Are there any more pictures of it from an different view? I am a huge pave fan. I have a pave ring that I have had for four years and while I don''t wear it 100% of the time, I have worn it a lot. I have had two stones fall out in that time. That setting is beautiful.

I too am not a fan of the channel settings.

Congratulations on your raise and your engagement.

Man, I love a guy with a sense of humor!!!
you made me laugh thanks!!!

I think the royal crown is gorgeous!!!! I personally favor channel setting, but it is a very personal choice. I am sure you will know what suits the future Mrs. capn polyester.
