I''ve seen a lot of haloes around here, but they are all around diamonds larger than a half carat. I have a 3 prong necklace with a 0.44 carat diamond that I hardly wear. I would like to have a halo like Kaleigh''s. But I''m not sure a halo necklace will look right with a diamond that small. I can''t really afford to upgrade the diamond right now, so I would like to work with the diamond I have. Is the diamond I have too small for a halo?

I think it would look just fine in a halo. I would keep the halo in proportion to the diamond though; something smaller and more delicate rather than a chunky halo so the center doesn''t get overwhelmed.

I think it would look lovely, as long as you keep the halo scaled down.

Or you could do somehting like this

I think halos work wonders for stones of this size, as long as you keep the size of the halo in proportion to the size of the stone.

I think your .44 in a halo setting would look great!
I''m thinking about doing the same with my .40.

I love this halo pendant setting

Scintillating...

i'm sure alj will chime in but when she was having her pendant made by WF....they noted that the kind of look she was going for, like the one scint posted ratio wise, was done with a .75c stone and 1 pointer melee for a very delicate thin halo. so a smaller stone will be more overwhelmed by a diamond halo and look less like that image that was just posted and more like maybe 1/2 stone 1/2 halo visually.

that may not be a big deal....but it's just good to know. the stones they used in alj's halo were .007's and .008's which are technically 1 pointers, and it looked great ratio wise but you can't get much smaller than that (maybe some vendors carry .005's) so just be aware that the look will be very different than alj's or kaleigh's halo or that one posted here below.

jelly just had an adwar halo made but i can't remember the size of the stone, it may have been a .70c too?

so just be aware that with a .40c or similar, the ratio of stone to melee/halo will be visually different with the finished product.

i would personally put a smaller stone in a very thin metal bezel...no dimaond halo. you will still get a bit of extra visual impact but it's nothing like a real halo of course!

I think it would look great. Can''t see why it wouldn''t??

oh and coda you mentioned costs, kaleigh and al's pendants as custom were definitely not low-cost.

if budget is an issue i'd go the route that jelly did with her adwar pendant...as i recall she posted costs in her thread about her pendant and the price was MUCH (as in much much much) more affordable than going custom.

My future GrandmaInLaw has a gorgeous Art Deco multi-halo ring with a less than .5 center stone & alternating ruby & diamond surrounding stones. It''s a STELLAR VINTAGE look. The halos are not proportionaly smaller to suit the middle stone, and it still looks fab. YUMMO. I''ll have to beg her for a photo next time I''m over!!

With a .44, I think I''d do a metal bezel surrounding the stone itself and THEN a diamond halo (Ritini Endless Love bezel style).. so when you see "the center" you''re also seeing the width of the metal ... NOT OVERLAPPING diamond & diamonds like the above picture.

I think halo with visible air lane will work the best with smaller stone, this way you can achieve desired proportions without heavy-looking halo.

I wholeheartedly agree!!! It would make the stone really stand out, and it would be so delicate!!!

This is gorgeous on a white background ... I can''t picture it with skintone showing thru though??

(Of course - if it was for ME, I''m so pale ... my skin would BE A WHITE BACKGROUND

Mara''s right....when I was doing this project, I wanted to achieve a proportion look similar to the Ritani proportions. I initially was consider a .66 stone, but in talking with Brian, he said that using a smaller stone wouldn''t result in that specific look.

I could choose to still go with the .55 or .66 stone, knowing that the result would be a different look, or I could go up to a .75 stone, at which point the proportions of the 1-pointers would be what I had specified.

I chose to go with the .75 stone.......largely because I never even thought of the airline idea Irina mentioned, but it''s a GREAT idea and would really set off the center stone and let it be smaller.

I''d really go with that idea for the stone you''re considering, Coda.....would really give you the presence I think you want.
