Hello,
I''m just beginning to figure out how to shop for a ring. I really like the rings on Leon Mege''s site. If you get one designed by him do you have to buy the stones separately?

I''m not sure I''m up for the search -- LOL.

I was thinking of getting a ruby instead of a diamond. But are rubies more expensive?

How much is it to have Leon Mege design a ring?

I need some guides before I start getting my heart set on something.

thanks in advance!

You will need to provide Leon with the center stone or have him source it for you. He will provide the small stones normally.

He is an incredible artisan and the pieces that he makes are well worth what he charges. Allow plenty of time as it will be a matter of getting the design, getting on his schedule, and then waiting until it is ready.

One nice thing though, is that he will build the ring around your stone, rather than building the ring and then you have to find a stone that is the right size.

Wink

I don''t think rubies are more expensive than diamonds...I oculd be wrong, but I can''t imagine they would be....

Thanks for your replies. I feel after just two days of reading the posts I''ve learned a tremendous amount.

I''m debating the ruby. One thing is just the practical consideration that there''s a larger knowledge pool for diamonds than rubies. But so far I''m definite on Leon. I can''t stop staring at his site!

Not true... just drop a line on the ''Colored stones'' forum and/or drop a line to the like of Richard Hughes, Wise or Vincent Pardieu who happen to drop by every now and then. There is no shortage of jewelers writing and a coule of guys doing custom cuting you might recognize from the lists of the AGTA Awards or such

Also, it may be true that you will not spend tremendously less on a nice ruby, but chances are it would not be more per carat. It just so happens that the ''usual'' size for rubies used in engagement rings is also more than that of diamonds. Take a look around the shops mentioned here and others - I am sure you will get your own (better) idea of what the options are.

Great choice of both ring and stone, btw !
