question, our work order said duration of work on ering will take 6 weeks. then we found out he is going on vacation in july. do you think this time off is included in his 6 week quote, or will it take longer if he is going to be gone for about 10 days?

I would call and ask. But honestly a lot of work is done by his benchmen these days...so production would probably continue while he is gone.

The only way to find out the real answer is to call him and ask. One can only speculate what he is doing!

leon doesnt do any of the work--it shouldnt matter

so what does he do? does he just oversee everything, and train the others to do what he does personally? i wonder what it takes to have a piece done personally by him...

i guess i could have called, but i am not to talk to him, only the bf talks to him and i didn''t want to ask bf any questions about it cause i''ve been very thorough for the overall specs and i wanted to leave him alone and let him take care of the rest. was my promise!

My work order included his vacation time, so my guess would be that yours does as well. But also keep in mind that his "6 weeks" is just an estimate and it could always take longer or shorter.

As a general yearly reminder to all:

July is a huge vacation month in the jewelry industry from retail to wholesale to manufacturer.

Always check schedules ahead of time.

I spoke to him a few weeks ago and he did mentioned that he is going on vacation and it sounded like his entire shop will be shut down. He had apparently advised me to send him the stone if I should go with him after he comes back.

Hopefully this is helpful.

Leon''s had my work order and payment for a few weeks and I know my ring won''t be done prior to the vacation shut down - my guess is that yours won''t be either but you never know unless you ask.

FYI - I was quoted 6 weeks lead time as well

hi souffle, lowphat, and Diana,

have any of you called to ask if the time quote included the time off everyone in his shope is taking?

if so, would love to hear what they said.

pannini-I don''t know for a fact but my guess is if he quoted you six weeks he would include his vacation time in that quote. you can always just call and ask him

I did ask Rachel if it was going to be done prior and she said no....closer to the end of July, a couple weeks after they return....so my 6 weeks doesn''t include their shut down time...it will be closer to 8-9 weeks for me although my design is going to be a little more complex (double halo, three sided pave split shank)....maybe yours will get out sooner.

Just email Rachel...your future FI need never know! [email protected]

See lily1120''s post on page 2 of this thread. I noticed it and thought of your thread. Hope this helps clarify, though if you can, you should double check with the jeweler.

Leon just shipped my two orders today (one e-ring and a pair of pave studs). My work order was for 4 weeks and it took a little over 6 weeks. I called early last week and requested my order be complete before his vacation.

I DID look back at the work-order and it states that the estimate is a guess and DOES NOT INCLUDE vacation time. His website also states that vacation time is not included in estimates. Estimates, therefore, are based on working days as he seems to take frequent vacation days.

Yes, he does.

Panini,
I think the whole workshop will be closed. In fact, the whole diamond district will be closed (I don''t remember the dates).

Thanks folks. Will be sneaky and email Rachael!

This practice doesn''t impress me. When I receive a time estimate, I expect it to include all reasonable delays. If a professional knows that there is a scheduled vacation, then it should be included. I really wouldn''t like it if I received a 6 weeks quiote, waited and then called to find out that my order was delayed because everyone took off on vacation.

Don''t be so quick to judge negatively. That''s the experience "asforhim" had with Leon. When I went to him last week to discuss my ring, he made me fully aware of his 2 week vacation and that it would be adding time onto my overall estimate.

The fact that his website states that the estimates are merely estimates, are in line with the disclaimers you find on any other website.

just curious, i know many folks on this thread said they were waiting for their leons. any news?!
