So I went for a walk by the coast today and came across this really cool bus cafe. This lady had turned a double decker bus into a totally clean-energy traveling cafe. It ran on used vegetable oil and was powered by a little windmill and solar panel that she'd rigged up. Very cool, and the food was gorgeous. Anywho, she was serving homemade lemonade and I got some. It was delicious! I have never really liked lemonade before, but I suppose I've never had homemade. She said she made a lemon syrup first with lemon juice and sugar, and then added fizzy water as needed. Sound simple. She was busy so I didn't press for step-by-step instructions, but has anyone here got a nice recipe or tips for making homemade lemonade? It was so light and refreshing, I'd love to make it this summer.

ETA feel free to add any cocktail varients for those summer evenings!

Homemade lemonade? You domestic goddess you

It seems we might have a summer to speak of this year so I suppose we should be thinking of thirst quenching beverages...

I often have plain old water with a squeeze of lemon juice or if I am at home, with a plain old slice of lemon, et voila lemonade; I''m not so much of the domestic goddess, in fact I''m lucky if the glass is clean

I do make a mean elderflower cordial, recipe here from the times Link but I use non sparkling water to dilute.

I have a super easy lemonade recipe and you can alter it really easily to make it carbonated. First, simple syrup. Ingredients- 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup water. Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly with wisk, as soon as you cant see sugar crystals its done. Cool to room temp. Measure out 1 1/2 cups lemon juice, add to 7 cups water in a pitcher, add simple syrup. If you want it carbonated you can leave out a few cups of water ( depending on how strong you want it) and add seltzer per glass instead. Hope that helps.

Haha Steal - it''s bound to be better than the TY stuff anyways! Seriously keep an eye out for this one with the bus. I came across her in Garretstown, just there outside Kinsale. I don''t know if she''s there for the summer or if she travels around. Deirdre Dunne is her name, she''s an artist too. Lovely colourful paintings ("colourful" is about the limit of my descriptive capabilities when it comes to art!). You can just order at the window or, way better, head upstairs and it''s very chilled out, Bob Marley and eastern fabric galore! Perfect for the surfer crowd. I was enchanted

sctsbride that sounds perfect - I think it''s the carbonated water that makes it so refreshing. I wasn''t sure if she boiled the lemon juice with the sugar and water or not. Thanks!

HA!

I was going to ask if it was the bus in Garretstown! DH went surfing there and was raving about it.

Hmmm, so I wonder where you are. Don't answer.

ETA: I just might have to let you know the next time he makes a trip, you never know there could be a mini GTG!

Tee hee, well I''m not a million miles a way, but I''m not a native of these parts, I''m only visiting for the day!

I''m all for the international GTG mentioned in that Hangout thread. And now we have the perfect location...the bus!!!

In the States we drink non-carbonated lemonade, so our recipes may not be exactly what you were looking for. I absolutely love fresh lemonade, however, and had the best lemonade of my life at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. There is a little restaurant on Jordan Pond which serves popovers and strawberry jam that also serves fresh squeezed lemonade with a little pitcher of sugar water on the side of the lemon juice and ice water mixture. It is just heaven. Of course I now make my own lemonade at home the same way! I tried to look for mention of it on-line and found a few hits.

Here is a link to one site that mentions the restaurant! I hope you all get there some day! (It has to be during the summer.)
