Ok, I bought a raw chicken breast and then left it in my car in the garage for about 45-50 minutes. It was not hot in the car, about room temp, but does anyone think this chicken is still safe to eat??

I put it the fridge and packed some frozen veggies near it to cool it fastest.

Any opinions?

I think it will be fine. I would cook it today, though.

likely it is OK if your cooking it today.
Use a thermometer and make sure it hits the right temperature.

Personally having hugged the porcelain goddess a few times, I would put the price of a calm tummy at more than the cost of a chicken breast, but that''s just me

Hmmm that is a long time to leave the chicken out.... i would boil the bejesus out of it first to kill germs, and THEN cook it the way i meant to.

I''m pretty sure you don''t have to do what I do... I''m just super picky. Cooking it normally would be fine =)

I think it should be fine to eat. I''ve done that a few times and never had an issue

i think it is just FINE to eat. FI thaws his chicken at room temp all day long and never has an issue.
however, i refuse to eat the chicken he makes.

(sidenote)- my mom gave me a frozen turkey she got from work for thanksgiving back when i was in college with plans i would make dinner for my roommate. in march, my car REALLY started getting a funky odor, to the point that i thought something died in it. after going grocery shopping on a very warm day in march, i found the turkey in my trunk. that went right into the dumpster behind my apartment!

I think it would be fine, bit I''m so crazy with my poultry I wouldn''t risk it.
Food poisoning is not fun, nope nope nope!

My sentiments exactly! I get squeamish about such things and wouldn''t risk it at all.

So - you still alive?

Oh my, the chicken is cooking right now. But I am half scared to eat it!!!!!!

I better cook that thing massively, ............gosh..............I really don''t know what to do.

How''d it go?? I''m sure it was fine, as long as it was adequately cooked! I''ve read that as much as 80% of raw chicken has the salmonella virus present on it, and it is really a matter of proper cooking methods (as well as proper means to prevent cross-contamination) that keep us healthy and "safe" from food-borne bacteria illnesses. I don''t think there is anything inherently "bad" about allowing chicken to sit for 45+ minutes that all of a sudden makes it dangerous!!

Don't do it!!! Just order take out and toss the chicken, please!

ETA I should add that I am very paranoid about food poisoning. People dying from eating raw cookie dough is my worst nightmare!

Best of luck to you. There is no way I''d risk food poisoning over a few bucks worth of chicken.

Crap, ok here''s the deal. My DH is willing to eat that chicken and I am going to have scrambled eggs.

Sounds like my DH. We went on vacation and cooked ground turkey before leaving. . .two days later, even after it went a day unrefridgerated for an entire day, he ate it. He''s also the type to leave Alfy''s pizza out all night and then eat it the next day. I''m too paranoid.

Enjoy your eggs!

better safe then sorry...not with poulty!dont do it!

My reaction to the chicken...

Glad you decided on the eggs. Better to be safe than sorry...

Good to hear u''re NOT eating the chicken. is ur DH fine? LOL

He ate it about 1.5 hours ago and so far, no problems. I totally rejected the leftovers though, so they went out in the trash!

I am quite suggestible, so I know that if I ate it I would feel sick just out of the concept of food poisoning. My DH is more practical.

Anyhow he seems fine, hope it stays like that.

PS, the eggs were fine - and quite safe.
