Leaving in a few hours, to wear my ering or not!?

Should I wear my ERing or calm down and leave it at home.

Hi all,

I'm going beach camping with my FI and friends and I was so excited to show off my ering to all my GF's but I'm so worried about it with the sunscreen, sand, saltwater, etc. If we were staying at the hotel, I would lock in the safe during the day but we're camping! I feel like I would feel better knowing where it was and not building sandcastles than NOT having it on my finger!

I have a solitaire with 6 prongs and WG band w/no pave. I feel it is a sturdy setting that can handle camping. The concern is the beach and fishing. It is sized perfectly and it take a conscious effort to get it off.

Honestly, I'm always nervous about things in my house when I leave town and the thought of leaving my ering there terrifies me! Maybe if I wasn't so paranoid, leaving it home would be a no-brainer but we're also going out on the town at night, double dates, etc. I really want to wear my new sparkly!!

Please, let the opinions fly, I need to decide in the next 4 hours!

I vote for wearing it, the safest place for an ering is on one's finger, IMO. Also, a simple solitaire can always be buffed out and look brand new if you're worried about scratches....

Do you all the insurance paperwork set up and confirmed? If no, leave it at home in a safe.

If yes... Take it :D Just wear it when you're lounging at the campsite and leave it in the locked glove box when you're doing activities :D

we are renters, no safe :(

I don't like to sleep in my rings and I most definitely do not like to wear them when I use my hands actively. So I would leave it at home. I don't own a safe, but I hide my ring if I go away. Its insured and its very unlikely someone will break in and steal it. Much more likely it would get damaged on a camping trip which would upset me a lot, even though its insured.

I have insurance to protect me against accidental damage, I don't have insurance so I can build sandcastles and fish wearing my ring!

If it's insured, I'd wear it. Jewelry is there to be enjoyed. Just, you know, be a little more careful with your hands than you would be normally.

If it's not insured, either wear it gingerly, or leave it at home in a safe place, and GET IT INSURED. And you can buy safes that will bolt to the insides of furniture ... it's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

Ditto the insurance. Then I would probably put it on a chain and wear it around my neck; still available for wearing and showing off to girlfriends, but out of the water and sand. Sunscreen+water= slippery metal and fingers; no matter how well it fits I would not wear it in the water.

Sounds like a fun trip!!

We literally just got engaged so no, there is no insurance yet. I can tell from the poll compared to the comments there is probably no 'right' answer.

Sounds like I should probably leave it at home but I really feel like it would be safer with me, even if not 'on' me. I don't know.
:errrr:
Ugh, if only insurance was a quick/easy thing to get. I would have done it this morning!

Haha, I understand your point but I would be trading wearing my ring for NOT building sandcastles and NOT doing the icky parts of fishing. Just the watching and maybe some casting. :)

The inside furniture safe is a good idea, I've never seen those. Also, we definitely plan to insure it but we JUST got engaged like yesterday and haven't had the chance to get it appraised yet. If weren't going camping, I would probably do it today/tomorrow! Hard to be upset about going camping, but this is a close one.

Do you have a chain? You can wear it with you to show off to your girlfriends, on your hand. Take it off to apply sunscreen and all that jazz, and put it back on after. If you go in the water and when you're going camping, put it on a chain to wear as a pendant.

I do have a few chains I could use! one is a sturdy ball chain another is a daintier gold chain. I *might* have a small gold box chain too. Is there a certain type of chain that is better than the others? I would think as long as it was short enough not to be able to come off over the head ( :errrr: ), it would be okay?

EDIT: we're not the type to play tackle football or anything on the beach. We're a have a beach drink and fly kites type of group...

I also like this idea. We will have a locked truck there too. I feel like the glove box might be obvious but maybe behind the jump seats less so... :loopy:

Can you take it to your parents home and leave it locked up?

I wish! They are about 6 hours in the other direction though. Le sigh, that reeeally would solve most of my conflicts! Alll except the showing off which is totally not the most important part...

I leave my e-ring at home when I go camping, I use my hands way too much setting up tents, hammering in stakes, etc. and I just don't want to worry about it. I wear a tungsten band instead. One other issue with beach wear is the water tends to be cold. I lost a tungsten band in the ocean wearing it at the beach, the cold water made my finger shrink and the ring slid right off.

Same thought, I would be afraid of it coming off in the water.

Thanks for all your comments and such, FI made an executive decision that it stays home. :wavey: Have a nice weekend!

Insurance is quick and easy! Do you have an invoice? If so, you should be able to get an insurance policy in just a few minutes.

I have insurance on most of my rings and I don't wear them when I'm playing in the woods. Too much chance of getting fingers hung up on something or banging the ring on something. I think your FI did the wise thing.

So if you have any glamour shots, put them on your phone. Take pictures of your ring. Show the pictures to your friends for now.

this is why i want to get one of those wishbone necklaces.... id feel comfortable wearing it around my neck building sandcastles and fishing, not so much on my finger

Another vote to leave it at home.

Have fun on your trip!

Hi, We're also renters...the best/safest is a safe deposit box at the bank...you're probably already on your trip now, but maybe get one when you get back? I have mine at a smaller branch of a local bank so if I need to access my box, someone is always available to open it for me right away.

I would wear it and bring a chain to put it around your neck. I was told not to wear my set on my euro trip but I did and I am on my last day with no issues. I don't wear my set to the Caribbean where I know I will be in the ocean or zip lining. If you are just camping. I wouldn't worry.

Another vote for taking pictures and leaving the ring in a safe place for now.
