So the cert is an EGL and it looks slightly yellow to you?

Deborah

it is EGL cert.
I think i''m just paranoid because talking to my GF months ago she made it clear she wanted a diamond with no color.
my jewler told me a G was colorless

my GF has no idea I bought the ring and in less than 6 days will ask her to spend the rest of her life with me.

I better take some xanax and wine along with me.

Do you have the cert? I think there was just a thread around about EGL Isreal vs EGL USA but maybe I''m remembering wrong.

I think EGL certs sometimes have a diff. grade that the stone would "earn" w/ GIA or AGS ... but a "G" EGL would still be an "H" GIA probably, right? Others weigh in?

EGL is loose on their grading so a g could be an h or lower. Same goes for their grading on clarity, FYI....

egl has a reputation for grading ''softer'' than gia or ags. if this stone were graded by one of these stricter labs, it is entirely possible that it would grade as an ''i'' or lower, which is getting into the level in which you would see color.

D, E and F are colorless, G, H & I are near colorless. In a well cut G,H or I you will not see color, but if your girlfriend asked for colorless, then you will want just that. Some people are color sensitive and others are not. HTH....

take it to an appraiser to have them look at the stone and confirm or deny color. also fYI, how you view the stone, aka in what types of light, and what color clothing etc you are wearing or the room you are in (colors) can play on the look of the stone as well. it''s hard to really know WHAT you are looking at. G is a near-colorless stone (not colorless), but many would be hard pressed to see YELLOW in a G. however if it was an EGL grade from an overseas lab like israel, it may be more like an H or an I. the appraiser (indepdent preferrably, aka not working for your jewelry store or any other) will be able to assist in the short-term.

good luck.

yes it''s EGL cert.
i guess my mentalness was getting the better of me.

Ok... it depends which EGL. At least the USA branch does not seem bad at all - there are only a couple of surveys of how much difference between grading by different labs there is. One has been published on this forum (see the 'Journal' link above). If another EGL branch is the grader, than well, maybe I'd see yellow myself

my walls are yellow

Diamonds reflect color and pick up the color of the lighting too. Incandescent light is yellowish and yellow walls or any color on objects next to the diamonds will be picked up by the stone. There are other posts about this on this forum too.
Best of luck with the proposal!

I don't think there could be anything that wrong with this diamond to be worth second thoughts. I like that high crown on a princess cut and everything else sounds pretty good about it (see the AGA grades under 'fancy shapes' under the 'knowledge' link on top of the page, if not done already).

If the seller has some return policy yours is a safe bet anyway.

Just my 0.2.
